I owned the Klon and was extremely underwhelmed. It's nice, but certainly not worth more than $200. I greatly prefer the Jersey Girl Fulltender and the Throbak stuff.

kalamazoo lovepedal is what I use since I can't afford to drop a g on a klon. The difference is so minute, and the lovepedal has more adjustability, I've found I like it much more than any klon I tried.

@gbsons John Mayer is another fan of this......Its really an amazing pedal. I think its just people objecting to the price which has gotten crazy since they stopped producing them.

a lot of people bash this pedal but I know Matt Schofield uses it along with a Providence SOV-2 (which I am waiting for in the mail) and he has about the best tone I've ever heard. I've seen his pedal board up close. He uses those two pedals and a deep blue delay, nothing more ,fantastic tone. Its hard to argue with results. I can see how this would make a great boost pedal when combined with the SOV-2 and it does not sound like a tone sucker to me. Nice pedal. Great Demo! Play On Brotha!

@thebarrelhousepoets - Just saw Jeff Beck tonight and he's got a Klon Centaur in his pedalboard. If it's good enough for Beck, the people bashing it don't know what they're talking about. He also had a Snarling Dogs wah, which I've heard a lot of people bashing. If it's good enough for Beck, it's certainly not crap so the haters must be idiots. :)

It may be out of my price range, but if i ever came across a use Centaur at a price I could manage, I'd snap it up quick.

I tried boots like that in this great store in Carmel. The great think is they don't suck your tone, they actually improve it. They were like $800 or something. I didnt have the spare change on me at the time, but maybe when I go back in three months they will still be there, who knows, time flies.

Never, never use coily cables! They act as capacitors and will suck off your treble frequencies. Use your tone pot if you want to darken your tone but get rid of those bloody coilers!

It's worth about - 30x .05$ for resistors, 22x .10$ for decent film capacitors, other IC/pots/diodes/board - 5$, 5$ spdt switch, 2$ for jacks. So we have 16$ max. I need just a cover - about 10$. So it's pretty expensive 26$ project! But they usually buy it in hundreds so i'm pretty sure that the price is about 10-15$ to build this thing. But i would say that someone must have something with their had to pay hundreds for that.

This is great and all, but IMO you're better off buying a Throbak Overdrive Boost. Even better tones (and so-much-more) for half the money. The Overdrive Boost is a freakin' monster. Just incredibly-good through a decent amp. I can't say enough about that thing. Clean-boost, dirty-boost, treble-booster sounds, overdrive, fuzz..... It's just plain awesome. Best "cranked amp in a box" pedal I've ever heard. Buy it, take some time to really get to know how to use it, and you'll keep it forever.

I have heard someone say that this version of the Klon is just about identical to the one with the centaur on it. Is this true? This version sounds pretty good to me.

The only real differences I noticed in the shootouts I have seen is this one is a tad bit brighter and maybe has a tiny bit more headroom.

Rule of thumb for me(after playing for 30 years). The best way to get killer tone is between your fingers,axe and AMP,PERIOD. Iv,e sold off all my pedals with the exception of a Vox Wah,and a noise supressor.

The guy who made the Klon is the biggest scammer in the music business. The pedal sucks. $600? I guess Warren Haynes isn't that bright and his ears are going. Analogman, Zachary, Fulltone- God, anybody's pedal, boutique or not, is better than a Klon.

@dwemmy You really don't know the designer, or the facts. It's the used market that is determining the current price, since this pedal went out of production for a while. If you knew the builder, you'd know that he donates his time and money (even gives away his pedals) to folks in need. So before you make accusations, do some research.

I love my klon, I've had it for 8 years, I've thought about selling it a bunch of times but never can, cause when i need a reliable "marshall" like tone it always works....

lately I've been turning it off however and using the Barber LTD SR, more open top end, not as much mid range and a diff kind of gain, as well as using the Divided by 13 Joyride which is fantastic, and the Lift......

No they don't make them. I bought one when they first came out new for $350. They go for about $1000 on ebay now. I'll never sell mine, it's the best OD pedal I have ever tried.

MAXON OD-820 is almost exactly the same as the KLON. I had them side by side for several tests and I went with the Maxon which is around $150 used on ebay - and then sold the Klon for $500. Plus the Klon is way too big for a normal pedal board.

Nehringer? Naxxon? LOL I cannot help but feel I would be able to tone the Klon more than these smaller pedals. Must be something in that box. Behringer? Are you kidding, isn't that like a $30 pedal? Mid range boost? Aren't there tone controls? I hear a lot of things these days. Like my FullDrive. Mine sounds amazing, must be my amp that others put down as fizzy, the low end Trower warble I have coming out of it or the Beck tones I get using the Tone Styler tone sounds like Wired on 11.

So this clip shows the klon also works with el84's, cool. How much clean headroom does that amp give you ?? Enough to gig with and get cleans with hair on em with a fairly dynamic drummer ??
