  • He always reminded me of my ex, he died at 38 years of age, drug overdose, he also had seizures, he just could not stop, his energy was a lot like Dennis, both physically beautiful and self indulged, too much given to him and a wealthy family of enablers, you just ask yourself, what if.....it never goes away....

  • Thank-you for putting this documentary up. So hard to watch but at the same time it's nice to remember Dennis' legacy.

  • Dennis was almost too far gone for detox help at this point. He reportedly would have seizures triggered by periods of withdrawal so he had become so dependent on alcohol that it would threaten his health NOT to be drinking. Sad sad case.

  • when i listen to pacific ocean blue and bamboo it just makes me feel incredibly sad. because you can hear the pain in his voice, lyrics and melodies and you know how the story ends. which makes it even sadder.

  • This is very sad to watch, but it is very powerful. It is so hard to watch his friends try to describe the anguish they still feel. What a sad end to such a talented man, who touched the lives of many. God Bless You, Dennis. We miss you.

  • very sad, too bad there wasn't an intervention

  • you can just feel the heart break and guilt and agony Dennis' friends express. They loved him that much but couldn't help him. Sad ending.

  • " I don't want to piss on someone's Picasso ? ". Taylor........Denny would have loved that line and loved what he sadly didn't finish !

  • @ruffian1868 Agree 110%! :-)

  • very moving documentary, cried at the end. thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks very much for posting this. What a sad story, but one that needed to be told.

  • Amazing documentary. Kudos to Mark Radcliffe and the BBC for another outstanding tribute. The same team did a fantastic Karen Carpenter tribute around the same time as this one. Equally affecting and powerful. And we lost both of them....specialists in harmonic pop....in 1983.

  • Very well done

    R.I.P. Dennis

    no sweat

  • Another great heart-felt documentary from the Beeb...not a fan of contributors including their own shit in every quasi-anecdote of the subject.

  • Thank you, Thank you for posting this. Denny was a beautiful soul who left us way too soon, as well as Carl. Denny lived more in his 39 years than most people do their entire lives. RIP to these great musicians and great guys :)

  • beautiful & sad story. forever dennis.

  • What a sad story! Dennis was looking for what we all look for, the truth!

  • So sad to see all the effort put in after he was lost to us. Don't believe you can't help someone climb back up. Even if you try and fail. Keep trying, stay close.

  • Dennis Wilson's music touched in more ways than one with his words in music. What a talent! Forever lost! Pacific Blue and Bambu the best! Forever Dennis!

  • So sad .....what can you say ?

He was lost and needed so much support...He will always be missed..

  • Thank you for this. I miss Dennis and Carl. Dennis lived more in his 39 years than most people live in an entire lifetime.

  • Its pretty tragic the man who lived for the sea and died by the sea

  • No one could save him. He is possibly doing more good for people now than he could while he was with us...look upon Dennis and remember the good memories and his music...best thing we can all do for Dennis, is to live our life to the fullest and be happy.

  • @LaylaGordon Unfortunately, people with substance abuse issues need to recognise that they have an addiction and need to want to do something about it, otherwise any kind of rehab isn't going to work. I'm sure his friends and family tried to help him. I've been there with a friend who couldn't see that he was out of control with his substance use. We staged an intervention but he wasn't having any of it and he ended eventually ended up ODing. So sad. Such a waste of life.

  • I won't claim to be a die-hard Beach Boys fan but Dennis Wilson was one cool dude. And, if I may add, Mike Love is a prick.

  • @FrankDallasUK

Me too I'm no die hard fan and I agree Dennis Wilson was a great guy. How come Mike Love is a prick though? What did he do?

  • I won't claim to be a die-hard Beach Boys fan but Dennis Wilson was one cool dude. And, if I may add, Mike Love is a prick.

  • thank you for downloading this, the beach boys music blew my mind when i was a kid in the 70;s and continues to bring me overwhelming joy.

thanx wilson bros/mike love/al jardine et al

  • typical california assholes.. totally bailed on their friend and admit it when he was in need, but now want to act all emotional about how they miss him...

  • @flycentro123 - you clearly have no understanding of how it feels to love someone and to be alive on the day when you know they are beyond help, from you or anyone else. You don't sound like too symopatheyic a dude yourself, so take your judgement call somewhere else.

  • Thanks so much for posting this....RIP DENNIS!

  • Thank you for posting this documentary. Will watch again from time to time, and remember the Wilson family legacy. Blessed and cursed at the same time which is why their music remains so bittersweet and hauntingly beautiful.

  • thanks for sharing this documentary, I was lucky to see all of the original beach boys including dennis and Brian at cleveland stadium on labor day when i was 10 years old, i think it was 1980 and i remember dennis singing but his voice was so shot and a month later he was out of the band...he didnt even play drums he was just standing on the stage...at least i got to see all of them..not many people my age can say that

  • what's the song playing at the beginning?

  • @FuckingStanz its called Cocktails

  • @doorsfan4ourever it's beautiful. and thanks for this documentary. really enjoyed it.

  • The lone record player on the beach in the sunset is meant to be poignant but it comes off laughably heavy-handed. Other than that I found this documentary very inspiring.

  • I too, felt the sting of tears behind my eyes, while watching this. Not only because I love this band, but because I too, have tried to "rescue", someone from their self destruction. Unfortunatley, an addict will do what they want, regardless..until THEY want to quit...not accoriding to when YOU want them to quit. Hard lesson, and some die because of it, but sometimes, it is what it is.

  • He had his chances and blew it, but don't we all. Im hoping he and Carl are in heaven waiting for us...One thing that does puzzle me is at the end why didn't Brian and Carl buy him a house to live in, maybe not a mansion in Beverly Hills but some house somewhere? Maybe Dennis didn't want help..RIP DW

  • Finally a n excellenmt doc on Dennis. Now we just need a well made theatrical film...unfortunately in this day in age it probably cant be done with any justice.

  • @livetofilm They are currently working on a biopic theatrical film depicting Dennis Wilson's life. The new film will be called The Drummer, directed by Randall Miller, and charts the last six years of the rocker's life. Also, Dennis' children Carl and Jennifer have signed on as co-producers, with the family's blessing. Aaron Eckhart is set to portray Dennis. I really hope the film acknowledges his song "Only With You". That is my favorite Dennis Wilson song and probably his most underrated.

  • This is probably the most moving documentary i've seen

    made me well up :'(

  • emotional tribute.thank you very much for this.

  • I love the use of Dennis' music in this documentary. From the instrumental version of Be With Me at the start, to Mexico, to Holy Man at the end. Beautiful.

  • I tried to save a few of my close friends and I became emotionally involved in my attempt to detox them or warn them about mixing benzodiazepines with opiates, but they didn't want to listen. Each and every time it broke my heart so I have a pretty good idea what Dennis' friends and loved ones had to go through.

I remember when he died. I was in denial at first and then it felt as though some beautiful memories were being ripped out of me. I miss Dennis Wilson.

  • @Nguli34689 I <3 Dennis Wilson! My Idol! I'm 22 and I can imagine everything he had to go through. Such an amazing person, that's the vibe from watchinbg this, listening to his music, and having read everything I have about him that I get. God bless him! Dennis & The Beach Boys FOREVER!

  • @ChipperRiddleMania Well, watching this video reminded me again how Dennis' friends tried to save him, but in the end weren't able to. I remembered how many friends I tried to help, but it was a wasted effort because they didn't want to change or help themselves. The last friend who died on me was asphixiated on her own vomit after drinking too much GHB. I tried to get her treatment, but she claimed to be too paranoid. After watching this on Wilson, I nodded my head and said: "What can you do?"

  • Haunting to hear Carl's guitar towards the end. Miss you guys.

  • Being a caring friend could help. people feel lonely and friends never notice cuz they hide it

  • Devastating!

  • i loves the california sound!

  • if love had its way ....? what? cant understand you buddy

  • All the money and fame and for his life to end the way it did is so so sad. Horrible way to die!!
