Um, The Marines secured Baghdad, and I know that the unit "The conquorors of Baghdad" were there after the Marines were thru baghdad. Actually, we handed authority over to the army. Look at history man, this is one of the few wars the Marine Corps is not being used properly. We are not made to sustain in countries, although we do it just fine. We are a small force, but the best force. We get in, complete our mission, and let the army baby sit...they have the manpower to do that.

I served in the Marines for 8 years. The Marines took Fallujah the first time only for the Army to lose it which caused the Marines to go in there a 2nd time (which I was there) and capture it again.

@infidelforlife the plugs i use are decible calibrated, so i can still here but its not as bad, and i always have a mic in so i can hear better in one ear better then the other.

back when i was ranger i used ear plugs. what ever kind i could buy, then i got the ones that block a certian decible

i dont know if very many troops use them but i do every so often see these devices that tweak your hearing when its quiet and when asound like a gunshot goes off they cut off the sound and work as an earplug. i cant recall what they are named but they are available for civilian use also.

@Tunedup81 mostly no one really wears any hearing protection. some guys wear tactical headsets called sordins or peltors that attach to their radios that also double as hearing protection. most dont though because 1 there arent enough of them for your regular infantry soldier, 2 they trap in more heat around your ears and head, and 3 they also can feel as if theyre crushing your head when you wear them under your kevlar helmet if you dont know how to set up the pads right.
