It really is a shame the MK-17 program got canceled. I really wanted to see a newer "futuristic" battle rifle in service. Granted, the M14 is a good rifle, but the Scar is just so much better.

The G36 and all other models are currently only made my Heckler and Koch, H&K. And yes they are based in Germany, if another gun company buys the rights to do so, they can make it. The M16 was made from Armalite, but after a while Colt bought out the rights, now Colt makes the M16s and M4s for the military.

The XM8 was just delayed because after 600 rounds of continuous fire, the plastic started to melt. The US Army would have it now, but they did put it off. But they fixed the problem and they are better, but its too late now. And the FN SCAR, both Light and Heavy versions have been bought by the US Forces, it was never put off.
