Peeps should read up on how this song and "Then She Did" were inspired by Xiola Blue, a budding artist who died of a heroin OD at 17. Interesting story...
Shit, I spent my teenage years listening to the Chili Peppers and Jane's Addiction.. never got the chance to see them live but guess what? I've seen the Chilis @ rock in rio and now I'm seeing Jane's @ Lollapalooza.. I feel like I am 16 again haha
Thank you for having this up here. For some reason, they have replaced this great studio version of this song w/ an inferior live version on the album now (at least on iTunes and Rhapsody...) I like this studio version so much better w/ the layers of speaking parts, and how etheral it feels... the live version is truly lacking. Thanks again!
@Mirshaan Dave did alot of over dubs on this album. That is kinda my only complaint about this band. You would need about 2 to 3 guitar players to play the songs right. When they went out on the road with just one guitar player, left holes in the sound. Especially when Dave would solo, and there would be no body playing the rythum parts. I always wanted to see them get on stage and own these songs live. To cheap to hire a studio musician ti fill the parts.
@djtahoe So, why don't you just talk about emotions JA gives to you, instead of spiting at Nirvana. There's so much to say about this great song, don't you think ? It would be more interesting, who cares if you don't like Nirvana ?
Does anyone know how they got the drums to sound the way they did around 6:40-6:51 ish? Like, the higher pitched ones that start as soon as the solo ends?
@srvfan42 They sound like "rim shots" to me where he hits the metal rim that holds the drum head in place, & LOTS of reverb! They also may have been overdubbed later.
@djtahoe I thought that they were rimshots... They just sound strangely industrial and...hard to explain. As if the rims were getting hit with a brick..
@sychozis Yeah, I know, such a shame. I really think this song should be included in the pantheon (beware! a heavy word ;) of the greatest rock tracks of all time. Why? For me, because I generally genuinely hate Jane's Addiction, but somehow they managed to write one song that is pure power and emotion. Respect!

Nirvana doesn't even come close to being half as good as Jane's Addiction!

@djtahoe silly comment. Music is not about performance, it's about emotions it gives.

Great song. The final solo is mind blowing. And the bassline fits with it perfectly.
