This was played at my Daddy's funeral last week. His wife had gone two years before him. It was one of the songs he requested. It soothes my heart to hear old Johnny sing it.
Mr. Cash was before my time....I think I was born in the wrong era because it seems I missed all the good stuff all the way around"No offense lord;)" I bet this is sounding pretty darn good in heaven right now with Johnny singing it along with 100 million angels...Just say'en:D
I'm not religious any more and I'm skeptical of afterlife beliefs, but this song has always touched me, especially as I lost the love of my life at age 25. I think the River Jordan can be thought of as something within us associated with profound life passages or transitions such as growing through the loss of dearly loved ones.
we played this for my father who 6 years ago today lost his courageous battle to cancer at 49 years old... the memories are flowing so strongly right now
@ntimd8t we played this song for my grandfather who in april also lost his fight with lung cancer at 65. me and him were very close and this song will always remind me of my grandpa. Im with u. never forget and always remember
I just finished reading Anchored In Love. Great read. This song was mentioned in it and I hadn't heard it since my grandma's funeral. What a song, what a thought to know that there are those waiting....
Anita Carter, June's sister, does a beautiful job of this song on the soundtrack of the movie, "The Apostle." Actually Anita had the most beautiful voice of all the Carter family.
@docsavage98 Knowing how they passed, I broke down when I heard June say she would be waiting for Johnny drawing pictures in the sand...They truely loved God and each other.
This is one of his most beautiful songs. I was born to like all his music, him and his wife .She had a beautiful voice.Rest in peace both of you. Till we all meet on the Far Banks Of The Jordan.God Bless.
We had a bluegrass band play at my church last Sunday and they sang this song. I had never heard it before. I also like Alison Krauss and the Cox Family's version. But on this one you can hear Anita Carter's sweet voice on the chorus. I can just see them singing this in Heaven now.
this is one of my favorite songs and i just wanna say that like many others i think the world lost two of the best artist the world has ever known when they went
this song was one of my mom's favorite. she was killed in 2008 in a car accident..i just had to hear this song and all i could do was weep...I know my mom is in the presence of God..and i cant wait to join her when He calls me Home!
@ksgrandma I am sorry as well , our people who have passed over will be there with your Mother , Johnny and June through this song are greater preachers prophets of what is to come for us all .
They played this song at my grandpa's funeral, it was very good when they played it because my grandma said hat it reminded her and my grandpa just like them. bc my grandpa was wery and tired. and then he passed away!
Great Tribute. However, with deep respect to John and June, the best version of this song, in my opinion, is done by The Cox Family and Alison Krauss on their album I know Who Holds Tomorrow
Johnny & June Cash are worthy of your touching tribute. I first heard of this song on March 25, 2006 by the Dixie Grass Band in Morganton, North Carolina -- live in studio, produced by Wayne Fetherbay for their 'Robert's Ride' CD. The founder of their band David Rex Myers died Dec. 7, 2008. Wayne Fetherbay passed away Oct. 28, 2009. I dedicate this video to their memory. By God's grace alone, may we all meet again on the 'Far Side Banks Of Jordan". With love from Canada, Evy.
A great version of a classic song, and your video tribute was very well done. One can't hear this song and see these images and not think of the incredible devotion that Johnny and June Cash had for each other. I once read an interview with Johnny in Rolling Stone where he said that he played this song for June in the early 1970s and said, "This is going to be our song". Needless to say, I think his statement turned out to be right on. It's a sentiment that all of us married folks can relate to.
Actually, Johnny Cash did the very first cut on this song around 1975 or '76. It was written by Terry Smith, who pitched it to the Oak Ridge Boys publishing, who in turn pitched it to Cash.
When June and Johnny past away 2003 I had same sorrow as year before, when my parents died. Now they are all on the Far Side Banks of Jordan.I hope we will meet again. In the silence of Arctic night, here in Finnish Lapland I miss them All.
The man was one of my heros. It's funny both of my heros names were John. John Wayne and Johnny Cash I met them both in person and they were class acts!!
Back to Johhny, Met him at Gammage in Tempe Az in the late 70's. He got mad at his security detail for pushing me and my siblings away as him and June wanted to sign our tickets stubs for us. I still have the signed tickets stubs. We talked to him and June for about 10 mins in the parking lot before they left. There was no crowd, just us.
I did and he was. I was 11 years old the last time i saw him. It was his second to last concert before he died. He had to stop in the middle to take a rest and it happened to be right in front of me. We shared a few sentence, but my little sister was crying and he look at my mom and his son johnny said "i have one of those at home"
I lost my grandfather in May of 2008. He had battled cancer for over 5 yrs, and they played this song at his funeral. I just sat and cried my eyes out like I never had before. I'll meet on the far side of Jordan though. Until then..
My Grandma passed away on March 1, 2009. The night before her funeral at prayers they played this and i just balled and balled. It's hard for a 12 year old like me to lose his grandma when she is only 62. God Bless her soul.
i feel Johns Pain, my Wife passed on Dec. 2 2008, we were married 18 1/2 years but were together for 23 and we knew eack other for 30, evenings are the hardest for me , i cry everynight but will see her again in Heaven .I miss her and love her with all my heart. God Bless
I just lost my best friend Jeffery Andrews, 39, yrs old...may God and the saints and angels...esp. his mom, dad and nephew Timmy, welcome him to Glory...,
I love this song! Thank you for putting it up. I was so sad to try to watch my favorites & not be able to get to the one "seraphim1983" had up. If you are the same person could you please put the old version up again. You are having fun with your new equipment—but the fancy wierd moving around on the screen doesn't seem to fit the music very much. I would like Slow changes with slow & sweet music.
This is the better version , ~ Arthur
