Very good movie in many language sub titles, please do watch as is a remarkable film based around actual events,I would describe this film to Europeans as a cross between gladiator and titanic minus the ocean
I'm a huge fan of historical epic films, so this is one I may see someday. Could someone tell me, however, how much it offers in terms of large-scale battles? I understand that it's a romance epic, so I'm not expecting too much, but still?
@Manas10101 There are a couple of good battles in the movie, but this is primarily a story of Jodhaa and Akbar, the political scenario is a great backdrop but it's not meant to take center stage. Hope you enjoy the movie!
@Elizabeth10148 but why would he also get a hindu marrige if he was a muslim? maybe he might have been a non-orthodox muslim becuase he did have alot of religious tolerance unlike aurangzeb, iv heard akbar also had 300 wives!!?
@182popeye Orthodox muslim have alot of religious tolerance, see Caliph Umar, but those who have the root of Khawarij muslim , dont have such tolerance , e.g Taliban
@182popeye He was indeed a muslim and practiced islam. To avoid war with the Rajputs, it was better to alliance with them. These weddings between Mughals and Rajputs where accustomed both hindu and muslim way to satisfy both parties and show mutually respect. Akbar had a tolerance for other religions unlike Aurangzeb. He also invented the doctrine of Din-I-Ilahi which promotes the tolerance of different religions. It´s a reason why he is the most popular Mughal ruler of all time.
@1sarith Agreed, entirely. I just wish the film did not perpetuate what is already popular but could well be unfounded. I did see the film, and while I appreciate Bollywood's shift to history, the artistic liberties Gowarikar took were immense. The incidents reeked more of Hindu-Muslim unity agenda than a dispassionate observer telling a story as he sees it.
Too critical? Indeed. But that's just what I'd like to see Indian storytellers do.
@1sarith There is little or no historical evidence for a Rajput princess called Jodha bai. If she did exist she may or may not have been Akbar's consort. If he indeed favoured her, she should have had portraits commissioned by the royal decree. As of now the only link to Rajputs is the portrait is Maharani Zamani, who may not be the popular Jodha.
ohmygosh how i LOVE this movie! hrithik roshan is so gorgeous :P roshan and rai have such great chemistry together. i also luv them together in dhoom 2 :)

Many of these scenes were cut from the film! Have to agree that this is far from historically accurate. Still love the movie.
