Nice sketch. What I like about it is how it tranposes politics to an non-political realm-dining, restaurants. We see a varied menu of ethnic revolutionary left wing peoples-Russian, Chinese, Arab-and the patrons are calmly talking as if this a normal everyday thing-which it is in some parts of the world.
How did I miss this when it was on originally? "The previous military kitchen regime and junta wish it to be known that they personally and of their own volition invited the Soviet troops to come in and murder them" - that's pretty much what happened in Afghanistan in 1979! :)
This was just after the Iranian Embassy siege in London and was quite lirerally the debut of the 22nd Special Air Service on the world stage. Most people in the UK, let alone the rest of the world, were not even aware of their existence mere months before. National pride was, understandably, running very high and resulted in this brilliant sketch.
Kudos to Rowan for doing "double duty" in this sketch.
@Jamieson66 also because it would be another nine years before The Telegraph and Jane's Defence Weekly disclosed the SAS had been training Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge.
Bon appetit.
SAS.

No, series 1 is the one with Chris Langham. I forget which series this is from, but it's definitely 2, 3, or 4.

"There has been no violence, repeat, just a little violence!" I love how sentences like these can be almost as good as the punchline sometimes. :D

pretty sure that most of the satire done by Not the nine o clock news would be "too touchy" for today's political correctlings

@rotyoung Bollocks would it, we have biting satire today just as then. Have I Got News For You pushes the boundaries just as far as NTNOCN ever did
