@1clarinet1981: Funny thing is, if the early Christian Church were composed of people like you who care not a whit for sound theology, St Peter and St Paul would have been run out of the Church. You would have laughed at them for writing the Epistles (which are all about teaching us how to live as our Saviour Christ did & sharing His Gospel), and would have dismissed them as intolerant, outdated, meanspirited, and presumptuous bigots. The Gospel ≠ "Can't we just all get along?".
@1clarinet1981: It's ok, we've heard your drivel before. You're playing the timeworn game the Episcopal Church has played against Episcopalians who actually believe and teach what is proclaimed in the Book of Common Prayer. Whenever we've raised a doctrinal objection to what the bishops now teach, national church authorities have accused us of being vengeful, selfish, haughty, or even mentally unsound. Also, no one has cursed at you here, so I don't know what "name calling" you're referring to.
Many thanks to the responders with obvious anger issues who seem a bit unstable. I've shared your responses with my 7-year old son, as examples of ways "not to behave,"
teaching him that his mother & I don't want him acting like a child when he becomes an adult, name calling and obviously angry because he doesn't get his way. I really appreciate your comments & thanks again!
Now; while some of you are arguing over Church Doctrine....look at the verses of this most beautiful Hymn and remember what is important (that you should remember)...AND beyond that.....Christ taught us to not only love our neighbors as ourselves but to love one another as he love us!!!!
Hymn 400 from the 1982 Hymnal of the USA Episcopal Church.
Words: Francis of Assisi (1182-1226); tr. William H. Draper (1855-1933), alt. Music: Lasst uns erfreum, melody from Auserlesene Catholiche Geistliche Kirchengesung, 1623; adapt. Ra;[h Vaughan Williams (1872-1958)
@1clarinet1981: I forgot to mention the sweet irony here: The Episcopal congregation here is singing "All Creatures of our God and King", when the Episcopal Church can't even decide what gender God is, let alone whether "all creatures" even need to acknowledge God for salvation. Oh wait--you folks don't even have a concept of salvation anymore! What was that the OT prophets proclaimed--that worship without obedience is all in vain?? 3 words: "White-washed tombs"!
@1clarinet1981: Funny that you want to ridicule the Anglican Church in North America for being a new 'denomination', because if I recall correctly, your Mother Church of England did just that a few hundred years ago. You mock orthodox Episcopalians for exiting now over doctrine, when your entire denomination left the one holy Catholic Church in 1534 over politics! You ought to humble yourself before Christ humbles you.
The eventual departure of KJS notwithstanding, we are witnessing the rot from within TEC, and they are dying a slow death, denied by most of the Communion, shunned by Rome and Orthodoxy, and cursed by the false doctrine espoused by their leaders, taught by purveyors of Arianism, aided and abetted by proponents of immorality, and blindly accepted by unsuspecting fools in the pews. At least some of those leaving that church are finding their way to churches with theological moorings.
TEC firmly entrenched as the laughingstock of Christendom! Although this building has plenty of people in attendance, it is only because the heretical presiding bishop is there. Episcopal churches continue to close and the denomination dwindles. The Episcopal Church has lost it's theological moorings and will fade away.
@Dalero2 Inclusive of what? You say "Celebrate Diversity" and remain over 95% White and middle/upper middle class. You've got all the vibrant, inclusive diversity of skim milk.
@1dogsamson Oh, absolutely good riddance. Go start your own denomination as you see fit. The faster these "thousands" exit, the faster we, who remain, can build an inclusive church. Oh, and remember, we own the buildings, so you'll have to leave them behind!
Oh, we built and own our building. TEC has no claim on it. The local Episcopal Church has about 15 people left in a building that seats over 400. We are at capacity and looking to build a larger Church. We will just have to see how your lawsuits go against those who have left your apostate demomination. FACE REALITY, YOUR EPISCOPAL CHURCH HAS LOST HALF OF IT'S MEMBERSHIP AND WILL CONTINUE TO SHRINK!
Oh, and btw, If you watch Fox News, listen to conservative talk radio, read First Things or the Weekly Standard (or a host of other conservative publications) or—heaven forbid—vote Republican, the Episcopal Church DOES NOT welcome YOU! So much for being INCLUSIVE!!!
@1clarinet1981 It is interesting to note that in 2010 TEC has been closing an average of 3 congregations per month and the new Anglican Church in North America has been planting 2 new congregations per week!
@1clarinet1981 And, what's more they are popular real-estate auction items! Which is where they go when the people have vanished. As the statistics show, the Episcopal Church is in chronic decline; just like in England where the Anglican Church has sent countless churches and church property under the hammer - cutting their losses - so too in the U.S. this process is afoot. It's easy to have an inclusive church when you're a congregation of 5.
@jlandles Religious self-selectivity and self-segregation make each denomination a little gated community, a little echo chamber lead by fairy-tale believing idiots in weird clothes who claim to talk to someone invisible and inaudible and all-powerful who yet needs more and more of your money and who cannot survive without tax breaks and whose "servants" love titles like "Reverend" and "Father". The fastest-growing category in the US? "None of the Above".
@1clarinet1981 "The faster these "thousands" exit, the faster we, who remain, can build an inclusive church"
What a ridiculous comment. You would have true Christians who are fighting for the integrity of the apostolic faith be thrown out of the church so that you can be inclusive? Ok....
@CCFHymns Glad to hear you consider yourself a "true Christian." You do realize that the earth is not flat, nor is the center of the solar system. Of course, the "true Christians" of Galileo's time branded everyone else "heretics" for opposition to their "true church" view. You are truly a "legend in your own mind."
@1clarinet1981 Ha, the flat earth myth, how amusing. The Church has never taught that the earth is flat - the Greeks measured its circumference in 300BC. As for Galileo, the position of the sun is not a matter of theology. Women priests are impossible, as in the Mass the priest stands in the person of Christ, the High Priest, a man. Women priests go against this divine ordering of the Church, it distorts the masculinity of Jesus and destabilises the relationship between men and women in Christ.
@1clarinet1981 and you are about to shrink to under 2 million for the first time since Coolidge. Face it, were it not for the divorced Catholics and Baptists with a little more education than their grandparents and the flaming queens for whom vestments are another form of drag, you'd be even worse off than now. Give thanks to a gracious god who created anglophile freaks who actually like this crap.
@1clarinet1981 I can't believe there are ten (as of today) thumbs up to a message between Christians (?) that says "good riddance". is that the best you can do? Oh no....you can remind them of your rights to property. Remember when Jesus wept? You might want to look that one up. Separate if you must, but owe each other the duty of love and grace. Signed....a non-Episcopal believer who is sorry about your family fight.
@1clarinet1981 That's what's been done for centuries i.e people telling other's good riddance.. Hardly a good way to learn from other people's perspectives who are Brothers and Sisters in the body of Christ and it's not the way to seek Christian Unity.
@1clarinet1981 I thought that this 'rubbing the hands in glee' as a phyrric victory are fundamentally anti-Christian but exactly what we would expect from a supporter of the liberal, inclusivist, demonic guided ECUSA.
