No problems with cats and there are no raccoons in Australia! :)
You can help protect fish in your pond with water plants for cover and having a deeper section for them to hide.

Beautiful pond shots! I enjoy a small goldfish pond outside my front window. I have to restock fish often though because of hungry owls.

I run a filter 3-4 hours a day, the outlet goes into a pot filled with expanded clay pellets with some plants in it. The pond is also well shaded.
