I am a huge supporter of dog training and agility, but please be aware of the healthy ways to train! Just because a dog will do it for treats does not mean jumping that high will not cause serious harm in the long run. If you look at AKC and other dog associations that hold agility competitions, the jump heights are based on the shoulder height of the dog. I would recommend looking at those heights and jumping your dog only at their height. With more training he would be a great agility dog!

So to train them they need to know how to sit, stay, and come. start by putting them on a lead and making them sit about 3 metres away from a small jump (25cm depending on the size of the dog), then run them towards it and as they get close to the jump, say the word "Hup!". if the dog is reluctant, try coaxing it with treats or a favorite toy.

@LNeillyiscute (READ THIS 2ND!) slowly increase the height of the jumps and then ask your dog to sit on one side while you go on the other side. Put objects taller than the jump on either side of the jump so the dog wont run out./ call you dog, if they go over the jump give them lots and lots of praise, but if they don't, ignore and dont make eyecontact. simply make them sit stay and then ask them to come over the jump. hope it helps!

@isisrox212 i always use some form of treat eg. piece of food or toy and a simple command (mine being "hup") guide him over a single jump using whatever form of treat you are using and also the command noise. If he does what you ask him to do he gets the reward of having a play with the toy or treat to eat. Keep pracising this at the same jump moving on to other jumps as he gradually starts to understand also lengthening that amount of jumps he jumps before he gets the treat. Hope this helps:)

first off you shouldnt jump your so high its not good for the dog, you have a beautiful black lab and no one would want to see it with a broken leg or shoulder would they? a lot of people do the same as you do.... they high jump there dog, p which is ok, but not all the time, doing it all the time isnt good AT ALL so maybe once a week you can have a row of high jumps or just one high jump, you should never start dogs out with high jumps, especially puppies!!!! cuz there legs are still growing!!!

Saying "its not good for the dog" or "he will end up with a broken leg or shoulder" is like telling a top showjumper that jumping there horse that high isn't good for it and it will break its leg or shoulder. Quite naive as simply there is a very low posibility of this occuring. My dog is NOT a puppy and was not a puppy in this video. He is about 8years old now and not a thing wrong with him...as healthy as an ox.

dont make the mistake i did with my dog cody now he cant ump for 1 month cause an injury i caused i was jumpingover a jump he follewed me it was some were areound the 1 metre 22cm mark really high for him and he cuse his left leg on it and knocked it all down the chair then hit him on the leg. be causrefull with the chairs when using as jumps stands now im saving for proper jumping for him

@TheBreyerMad thank you for your concern. All the jump stands i use are very lightweight and a slight touch of the pole will cause it to fall off. The rails are placed on the chair in a way so that if touched they will also fall leaving the chairs still standing.
