Always liked Tubular Bells and had the original album when it came out but I never knew this existed until now....I'm stunned that I've missed this all this time....awesome to say the least
There is one more interesting thing with this song: it sound like this child speaks Estonian: I hear the voice saying: "Oota pikne, oota pikne!" It mean "Lightning wait, lightning wait!" in English:)
@reggaeminister 'And the man in the rain pick up his bag of secrets and journey up the mountainside far above the clouds and nothing was ever heard from him again except for the sound of tubular bells!'
@reggaeminister And the man in the rain pick up his bag of secrets, and journeyed up the mountain side, for above the clouds, and nothing was ever heard from him again, except of the sound of TUBULAR BELLS...... By the way, is a girl.
It's such a joyous piece of music that it moves you to tears. Imagine a world free of aggression or violence and you have Mike Oldfield and his magnificent band and his majestic tubular bells.
fortunately, I was around when this incredible original timeless music emerged from a genius ... not the remixes (they are brilliant too!) the original version
was too young to realise what a spunk mike oldfield is too ,,, just a bonus!!!
@diG1tY Awakening? were you sleeping in the 70s and 80s when mike was starting out. I grew up on this and I guess 4 decades later is still good song. Some things never get old. This is why when someone tries to sell you on the bull shit that we die for no one wants to life forever who is he kidding?
I just love how it starts off with a very simple, quiet piano and then starts to grow and evolve as instruments are added, drumbeat is monotonous and attractive at the same time, bringing you to almost trance and finally the bells bring their powerful sound and everything starts to sound like harmonious cacophony.
And in the end, when bells turn silent, you feel yourself in the rhythm of drums that you didn't notice before because of the bells, but you feel that it's at least as powerful
@NoeloMurphy You've got to be kidding me. If you seriously think this is the best, most epic piece of music, then you haven't listened to much. Many movie scores are more epic, a lot of classical music by Wagner, or even modern orchestral music by composers such as Thomas Bergersen is easily as epic as (and in my opinion a lot more so) than this particular piece.
Awesome performance for an awesome masterpiece, too bad it was raining all the time.
You british have many of the world's best artists, but your weather is awful. Mike should have brought this premiere to Spain, because he lives here (in Ibiza) and because weather wouldn't have been a problem for sure.

Of the three Tubular Bells albums, Tubular Bells III was the least successful, reaching only no. 7 on the top ten chart. Just making no. 10 is a feat in itself, but here's more. The first two albums both reached no. 1. Genius... period.
One can not express great ideas in music by meaninglessly repeating only a few notes just as great plays can not be produced by repeating 3 or 4 words however different the voices and intonations may be. People who appreciate this kind of "music" have never learned to listen to truly great music. As a result their ear and their part of brain that appreciates music is as developed as the muscles of a baby.
50 people on stage that have LITERALLY nothing to do, but a simple action (even the piano part is a single finger melody). The only "amazing" thing is that they had to make those bells just for this song.
I really like the sound of electric guitar (solo from 5.22 minutes to the end) what is the type of guitar? The EMG 81/85 or I'll have it sound the same? fell in love with this guitar! - Can someone help me?
I got the CD today, and I must say that the sound is better on the DVD..one can distinguish the instruments and voices better. Odd, isn't it? But I aint complaining too much. Both rock!!!!
