  • Can someone please kill the drummer...

  • Hate to say it... But a large percentage of this poor groove can be heavily attributed to Hellborg too, not just the drummer. The tightest thing he played was the cheesy ending.

  • @chrisjazzbass Sorry but the drummer is clearly blowing it... losing the beat etc..

  • @dontillman I said not JUST the drummer. Read my comment properly. Jonas is playing pretty badly too.

  • @dontillman I said not JUST the drummer. Read my comment properly. Jonas is playing pretty badly too.

  • Flea beats jonas....

  • @Tottabolo in mindless bashing at the bass yes.....

  • Terrible DRUMMER. He doesn't have to be amazing like Jonas, all he has to do is keep the DAMN beat, WHICH HE COULDN't!! That just shows you what a cool guy Jonas is, cause if it were me I wouldn't have allowed that amateur to botch the groove.

  • It's official that Jonas Hellborg is actually a pseudonym that Chuck Norris made for himself when he took up bass :)

  • To the people saying the drummer fucked it up for Jonas: Hellborg is a good enough bassist to be able to more than make do with any groove he's given.

  • @spynae agree

  • The drummer sucks. He ruined him.

  • fuck this dude. hes a bass player and hes so good he makes me want to quit guitar. ive lost too many hours of sleep listening to this guys music

  • With that beard he kinda looks like Chuck Norris who else agrees?

  • If you can hold beat and rhythm, IMO drummers, depending on skill, can be limiting to creativity

  • drummer should practice more........

  • He's great... you'd have to be to play with McLaughlin and Shawn!!!

  • he didn't even need a drummer ot keep a rhythm, his slap bass style is great for it! a true legend of bass!

  • Realmente el pinche baterista pasa a darle al traste a la pieza

  • that drummer totally fuck't up Jonas's groove

he was doin so awesome before the drummer showed up -_-

  • that drummer is horrible, it looks like jonas is having a hard time not laughing.

  • hes really wankin off here, but listen to "a transcontinental gathering" by a collaborative group called "icon" .. it has the best bass playing ive ever heard by hellborg

  • wow , just wow.

  • Man why do you people need to come on here and slag each other about what you hear? Just enjoy it, take your own experience from it, and chill out. The drummer certainly isn't amazing but he's giving Jonas some beats to play with. I'm sure he'd rather have some beats rather than play alone some of the time.

  • It's a Warwick, Jonas' signature bass, with a hollow body but no holes, so it's PURE ELECTRIC. The sounds seems to be recorded straight from the amp.

  • Perhaps I can clear up your confusion as to how someone might enjoy this video.

There are people in this world actually enjoy things you don't.

  • He is doing thing with rhythm you can even conceive off short sided twat fuck off and listen to the norm if that all you like.

  • wow he 's got incredible sound with his acoustic ....... I always would like to get an acoustic bass on wich I could use modern technics like slap 'n tappin' things....does someone know a little more about this bass and if it is maybe purchasable

  • Warwick I think, though don't flame me if I'm wrong...he has a signature amp too ...:D

  • It is made by Warwick and the retail price of it is $9500. Also it is not an acoustic.

  • yes you're right on that point...I would say this is an electro acoustic....but does it sound good without being pluged in ?

  • a very good bass player...xenotoxette find the tempo, turn on your metronome...and listen carefully:D:D..you'll see that he's quite accurate

  • Should have left out the second half of the clip. Fortunately the cam focuses on Hellborg so the world will never know who that "swinging" drummer was...

  • pmsl the drummer was not fit to play with mr Hellborg

  • where the fuck did he find this drummer?

Either he's switching time signatures every 4 beats or he needs to buy a metronome.

  • -OR- option C) You need to get over yourself and stop nitpicking underrated badass virtuoso bassists.

By the way, where it isn't rubato, it is rhythmically sound- maybe it is you who needs a metronome.

  • OK- I get it now... some hack comes in and trys to jam with him. Sorry Xenotoxxette.

  • Um.

I'ma have to say that this guy is pretty good.

  • nice

sitting on the floor next to a stool

  • Sounds like highschool

  • Very inspiring drum playing! Keep on rocking little kid!

  • WHY..oh why...I wonder :-(

  • That drummer sucks pretty bad. Hes slowing Jonas down, hes out of time, and that drumline is so repetitive.

  • Yeah, the drummer seemed pretty arrogant in all honesty, just rushing over to the electric drums like that. Oh, I know what'll make this guy sound better. Me!

  • i just want to go into that drummers ear and scream "1! 2! 3! 4!"

  • awesome.....

  • The text at the bottom of the screen completely ruined it.

  • It didn't ruin his playing, but it was so unbelievably distracting... Folks in China must not know that you shouldn't have to litter a recording with references of who, what, when, or how.

  • Sure Jonas is technically amazing, but 7 minutes in the Key of E?! Come ON!!!

  • He's just jamming dickhead, and besides what's wrong with 7 minutes in one key? It's called modal jamming. Fucking Coltrane used to jam in the same key for half an hour. Just because you change keys doesn't mean you're shit hot. Grow up.

  • What's wrong with jamming in one key for so long is that the creativity becomes stagnant very quickly. It is boring, unchallenging, and unoriginal.

  • I think you just have attention span problems go listen to Dillenger Escape Plan.

  • i agree. dillinger satisfies me on days when i cant pay attention to anything.

  • It depends, trying not to repeat yourself is important although saying that, motifs sound great in a solo, I think changing keys can sound unnecessary and random at times though but that's probably because I'm not a big jazz fusion fan.

  • That drummer is an insult to Jonas's talent. Please make him stop.....PLEASE!

  • I loooove Jonas! I enjoy watching him play bass.

  • hes amazing i think.

  • awsome with mattias IA Eklundh

    awsome with buckethead

best duo of all time with shawn lane

  • Just got Art Metal, with Mattias Eklundh...it is really fucking amazing. He is such a fantastic bass player, and it almost seems like he's overshadowed by guys like Wooten. Nothing against Wooten, he's a fantastic player too, but I think Jonas deserves more recognition. I'm probably gonna get some flak for this comment, but I'm just stating an honest opinion and hold nothing against Victor.

  • to much acoustic bass sound

  • acoustic bass sound

dude it dont sound like 1 atall it actually sounds like a thumb 4 or some other warwick bass.

  • theres no acoustic sound listen with your ears not your eyes

  • i tried and i still hear the acoustic tone.

    bitch.

  • Just trying to give some advice where its clearly needed lol slapper

  • i heard it too .

    richer , deeper tone . with a more ... thin attack .

  • Yeah, you're really an internet badass. No doubt there is a very subtle acoustic hint to his sound, but it is very hard to notice, and the bass' acoustic chamber probably affects the tone little more than the tuning pegs.

  • the bass has a solid body

  • If it were solidbody it would be massively heavy which would defeat the purpose of a lighter bass to help his back issues.

It WOULD be sort of humourous if it was solid.

  • @canvoodoo nope its hollow

  • the reason the bass looks uncomfortable is because he holds it liek you would an acoustic bass, that most likly due to the body shape. honestly envy the studant of hellborg...

  • Hilarious to see Jonas deal with such a lame drummer. Gracious man! You rule.

  • someone please snipe that drummer ....

  • pmsl I was thinking the same thing Jonas has that look on his face like shut up ya 4/4 moron.

  • Sassich92 says he´s her bass mentor! Check under "it´s the Pits"!

I realy envy her! Wish it was me!

I don´t think he´s got any other students (or wahtever it´s called).

Wonder what he´s like to have as e mentor...

  • its cool to hear how as musicians (good ones at least)progress, they develoup sort of like a new set of sig. licks, and this one seems to have a good mix of newer and older lines

  • Wow, I am speechless....

  • I agree,fully.Jonas is an amazing bassist.

  • Despite the fact that Jonas seems to underplay his slap game a lot these days compared to say, the 80's when he was making records like "Elegant Punk" and such, he has done nothing but improve! I was seeing some crazy shapes and ideas coming out there, and imo, Jonas has done nothing but improve as he has gotten older! I will always love his "early" days, which I'm sure he would refer to as somewhat "naive" now, but he really is a player right on the top of his game.
