it is a slight bit strange when the crowd throw in a forced fake laugh at bits in the song like "Hank Williams hasn't answered yet" as if they didn't know he was going to say that, and clap when he sing "i was born with a gift of a voice" still love the upload none the less
what makes you call the laughter fake? have you ever been to a live show? the feel is completely different. You get sucked into this kind of mob euphoria, so, really, I have no doubt the laughter is genuine. It's one thing to hear Cohen's delivery on your stereo and another the have the man right infront of you in an intimate setting.
17 eh? I'm only 19 m'self. It's good to see young pricks like us can appreciate such music while other kids our age listen to their Dragonforce and Soulja boi....hope that didn't come off as to osnobbish.
Roger. I will be seeing Cohen in January in a open setting at an Australian winery estate. I hope there aren't too many drunken audience members there
maybe they haven't heard it before, at first hallelujah was the only song of his i knew, but normally even if you don't know the song, you'll know when its over, the person stops singing and the instruments stop playing. Thats a major sign.
I am just an cranky old music snob. I discovered Cohen in 1968 when I was 18 years old. Hard, even for me, to believe that you can listen to someone for 41 years, and NOT get bored !!!
No, its okay.. i get your point. I could listen to somebody for a long time and not get bored, something else would probably get in the way... but nonetheless its Leonard Cohen is really cool.
this audience is just awesome. look at them erupt as Cohen sings "I didn't have a choice, I was born with the gift of a golden voice", then look at the smile on Cohen's face--if that ain't love I don't know what is.
However what I really take issue with is the rowdiness of the crowd. I suspect from just this clip that a good 75% of the audience was pissed to the giils.
It even seems to throw Leonard off at times. With some artists the audience participation would add to the performance. I think it detracts from this one though.
That, in a nut shell, is my complaint.
However, I do thank you for uploading this and giving us a glimpse of this tour.
Well Ireland never really produced a composer of significant stature, so even in your sarcasm you're providing a grain of truth.
However, that's aside from the point. Irish folk music developed pretty much as a means of socializing. Get drunk, clap your hands during the middle of the song etc.
I've never heard anything remotely Celtic in Cohen's music. There're some Jewish folk and French-Canadian influences, but nothing Celtic.
This is my most favorite video of all. I look at it at least 2 times a day and have it posted to my web family tree and album. I never fail to beeam a smile when he sings "born with a golden voice" and everyone claps - he looks sooooo proud and shy and vulnerable - I could just give him a big kiss!!! He's more attractive now than ever.
"I was born with the gift of a golden voice..." (sincere applause)

Unless they're clapping a great instrumental solo, it just means they don't know the song enough to know when it ends

Speaking as someone lucky enough to be at two of the three Holy Heart performances, the crowd was incredible.
You should take your racist bull and poke it right back up where it came from.

@fourayes Just because you saw your dad get fucked up his hairy asshole and enjoy it does not mean that you have to hate on gay people.

Thanks for posting this wonderful video, not like others from live concerts where you mostly see curtains instead of LC.
Audience reaction is great as usual.
