  • It's ok, he's wearing a jacket and gloves :-?

  • can i get a thumbs up for no reason

  • Rule #1. Wear a helmet.

  • Motorcycle Riding Basics : Wearing a helmet.

  • Ok this is the third video that has cut out before the end... These are REALLY excellent video's with great advice for people like me, so why the hell hasn't this been sorted out!?! I WANT TO SEE DOWN SHIFTING AND UP SHIFTING!

  • Take caution when practicing ExpertVilliage tutorials.

  • If you have to watch youtube on how to gear a bike, then you shouldent drive before you have had some lessons.

The most important thing about bikeriding is how to use your sight to stear the bike, and how to emergancy break. And how to position your self on the road/traffic and on the bike in curves and breaking.

  • aight so im gettting my new bike in about a week. i was kinda confused when you're talking about the up shifting. gear one is down. then 2-5 is up? or would that still be 2-6? andddd the downshifting from 5-2 would be down then 1 would be back up?? would just like to straighten that out thanks village, you're vids deff getting me ready for riding. gettin that CBR 1000rr too lol.

  • @PrDanny First, if you're riding a bike for the first time DON'T get a CBR-1000...you'll kill yourself. Now, to start..put in neutral...drop DOWN to first...then UP to 2nd-6th. To downshift....6-1st is all the way DOWN. Neutral is a half click between 1st and 2nd...when shifting from 1st to 2nd a stong foot movement will bypass neutral. If you want to go from 1st gear to neutral it's a half of a click UP.

  • @Hbryant188 .. Hey Hbryant good lookin and naaa ive been riding dirtbikes for a while now so i kno the basics of weight shifting and cornering, counter-steering. and all that. just goin to the street bike for the 1st time. im confident in my ablitiy to control it thas why im going for the 1000, and thanks i defff get the gear set up now just had to be sure. ill be good. haha anddd ima deff be one of those responsible riders not douche bags weavin in and out of traffic going 150 mph lol.

  • @PrDanny Be careful, a liter bike is A LOT of power... I have an 08 R6 and it is a hand full...very few people can safely tame a liter bike. Ive been riding dirt bikes since i was 7 and stepping from that to a street bike is a big difference...

  • NO NO! i dnot even know first gear yet!

  • I hate it when the top comments are responses

  • @HalfEatenMilk why? if you wanna easily find the comment they are responding to just go to see all comments and click F3 or hit Ctrl+F and type in the name they are responding to...

  • Nice bike! honda cbr

  • always look both ways when pulling out onto a road, which goes for both drivers AND riders, and wear a helmet! even if there is no law requiring such. dress for the crash, NOT for the ride!

if you hop on a sport bike and are doing 90+ in a 50MPH zone, if you want to be dumb like that, feel free, but remember that you are signing a pact to yourself stating you may get killed if another driver doesn't see you coming up and swerves into your lane with no turn signal.

BE SAFE! ENJOY THE RIDE! :D

  • if you've never ridden before, it may be kind of a scary thing to think about such as the concept of something going wrong, but as long as you're attentive and aware to EVERYTHING going on around you, you'll most likely be able to avoid the crash. the only time you won't is if someone rear ends you, but if you see them coming too fast in your mirrors, you may be able to dodge them.

a lot of riders are also cut off in traffic. give yourself a buffer zone when riding next to another car.

  • "What!? Timmy died on his motorcycle?!"

"Yeah it's crazy I don't know how it's even possible I mean he watched all the youtube videos on how to ride a bike so we just assumed he was like jesus on a motorcycle"

Going to youtube to learn how to ride a motorcycle...

    You're doing it wrong.

  • @wtfhaxftl36 You're being inconsiderate. There's a time between getting a bike and going for the tests. These videos are for people who havent had a bike and want to learn it before going in.

  • dude ur bike is sick

  • Nice videos mate :D Helps..like in driving school :) Well done.

  • I'm 17 and just got my licence. I wanna get a motorcycle but i'm not sure if i should. My mom says i shouldn't. Well, actually she forbids that i do. But i love bikes so much. I'm also kind of scared because i have a friend in my church who was in an accident, and he will never walk again. He's in an electric wheelchair 24/7. I also know several other people who have died or have been hurt in accidents. Anyone have any advice for me?

  • @crazypersonlol34 If your worried at all to ride, then DONT. Bikes are much more of a safety issue than a car even with experienced riders. Keep your gear in proper order, learn the basics, and maintain a vigilant eye. A bike does require much more situational awareness than a car. Regardless of what anyone else says, DO NOT start off with an engine larger than a 250cc they are plenty peppy and also regarded by many as a perfect beginner ride. ( Kawasaki Ninja 250r - around $4000 new / 61 mpg)

  • @crazypersonlol34 An additional comment in regards to saying " If your worried at all to ride, then DONT." By this I do not mean to insult you but simply mean that riding a motorcycle requires confidence, just as learning how to ride a bicycle. Start off slow and steady with a good learning foundation. Muscle Memory is key to being a good rider too, just as an experienced soldier can operate their weapon in a fire fight efficently without any thought. Everything should feel like second nature.

  • @BuffaloPie I've learned that it doesn't matter how good of a rider you are, 90% of the time riders die is because of another ignorant person disobeying the law. Recently near my neighborhood a rider died because some one ran a red light and ran into him. He died on impact. If he was in a car he probably would have lived. Honestly, riding is okay for the lonely people who have nothing to live for but pleasure, but for a man who has a family and people who care, it's really not worth it.

  • @crazypersonlol34 it is true , but living being so afraid to die is silly , you can only hope that god will give you a bit of protection and quick thinking to avoid a crash with somoneone that ran a light , I agree with the lonely part , if you have kids or a family don't get a bike , I ride mine on weekends and night time when I know most people are not in a rush to go anyware .

God protect all riders out there.

  • Quit being douches. He's just trying to inform noobies like me.

  • Just looking what he is wearing says a lot...

  • i dont give a schit if your a mormon

  • this video isn't helping anyone

  • Try buying some skates first then a bike

  • Yes he could have mentioned neutral, or emphasize having it in neutral or the clutch in when starting. But you wont "POP OFF" if trying to start in gear.I've owned numerous street bikes, yes and even large displacements sport bikes, and the worse it will do is lurch a little forward and won't start. But most bike won't even start now if it's in gear, because of safety sensors. Try taking off in gear with the kick stand down, it should shut of the engine too.☺

  • Dont listen to this guy,he's a noob himself!

  • do you downshift as when you are slowing down and going to a pull stop?

  • @wannabrockstar123 Honestly, the r6 is more of a second bike than a starter bike. If you want something sporty you should try something that isn't as touchy on the throttle like a 500 ninja. It may not be as cool or as fast as an r6 or a gsx-r but they're very fun to ride, lightweight, easy to handle, and they have plenty of speed to spare.

  • thats the bike i want the 600 double r but i nvr ridden before except at msf lol i assume this is not a good bike to start on

  • im 16 and im gonna get my bike license i have rode many dirtbikes yz250f's a couple 450's and so on but not many streetbikes i only onces i rode was a katana 750 and a ninja 650 and i could handle them pretty good not amazing but i could keep the tire side down and i found a r1 in amazing condition cheap and i was wondering if i could keep control of that massive beast or is it to much for me?

  • @wannabrockstar123 If I were you I'd try something a little less extreme. 1000 cc's is a lot for a first bike especially when it's on a super fast bike. I'd go for the katana or something like a smaller bandit. They're not the fastest bikes but they'll be much easier to handle than an r1

  • expert village should really make one long video instead of splitting everything up, that way they dont have to have 138,000 videos... and i wouldnt have to search for the next video

  • yeaa you forgot newtral u dum fuck

  • @The1r2r3r dude you can't even spell neutral...

  • I'm glad i am not the only person thinking expert village is a bunch of total morons.

  • What I've learnt from watching expert village vids on Skateboarding, Guitar Playing, Bike Riding, etc etc. DONT EVER TRUST THEM, EXPERT VILLAGE ARE ALWAYS WRONG WITH SOMETHING

  • I strongly dislike how these videos are chopped up to like a minute long often cutting off relevant content in the video, like oh... i dunno. This one!

  • and what about the shifting with gas like in superbike champ?

  • i hate them demonic devil cycles

  • 6,7,8 wtf more like 2-4

  • How bout wearing a helmet everytime u mount the bike.

  • do u let offf the gas before u pull in the clutch

  • when i first started riding i was a bit confused about shifting. need some more info for the beginner. i just made a vid, kinda long but kidna explain things i had trouble with when learning to ride

  • True Say Pigz! lol

  • You can shift up without a clutch on a dirtbike safely. On a sportbike you should use your clutch to save your tranny. And I don't mean a cross dresser lol

  • Ha-ha-ha.He forgot to tell about the neutral gear....

  • and what about neutral? lol

  • 8 thousand rpms... not "8 rpms"!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @rmessenger he maybe rides around at 8 SPM ^^

  • @rmessenger You mean "8 hundred" right? Starting your bike off with 8,000 RPM is already halfway to redline.

  • @Trispeed2008 do you even know a bike which idles at 800rpm? i dont lol

  • I always wonder why in a lot of vids people are riding, they don't wear a helmet. I'm perplexed.....especially a "motorcycle riding basics" video. Is it because you look super cool not wearing a helmet? Everyone that wants to ride are like, "that guy doesn't wear a helmet and he looks super cool..... I wanna look super cool too!"

  • dude, you should not be wearing sneakers, buy some motorcycle boots and wheres your helmet!!!! for pete's sake you have alot of noobs and youngsters watching this, set a better example!

  • @buckwheat40 does it matter if he's wearing sneakers or motorcycle boots???

im asking because im gonna be riding to school soon and its about a 15-20 minute ride and i was wondering if regular shoes will do? thxx =D

  • can i shift up without pulling the clutch ?

  • @Botev1912Botev u can't do any shifts without using the clutch u have to keep that in mind while riding a bike

  • @52nos thats not true, you CAN shift up without using the clutch on the bike, i dont reccomend doing it but its possible...

  • @tomcatpilot13 its possible but it sometimes dameges the whole transmission and makes the gears were i really really don't reccomend shifting without the clutch

  • @tomcatpilot13 yeah u CAN go through a wall but theres also a door :)

  • I love you.

  • @freakout9351 they say 6,7,8 rpms for short, they know its in thousands. Its still correct if you know what your talking about.

  • @shoooobsss yeaaa if you know.. but you have some really stupid people out there..

  • hey guys i was wondering if u can get a motorcycle permit in arizona if u are above 18?can i or only motorcycle licence??

  • I've never driven a motorcycle before, is it most similar to riding a dirt bike?

  • lol and they just say like 7 rpms... its 7 thousand rpms... if the bike is just on and sitting still its doin for than 7 rpms...

  • @freakout9351 not saying hes wrong, but I own a 2002 Suzuki intruder VL800 volusia, the bike has a peak torque at 2500 RPM, this bike also has a tall 5th gear, so in some cases, such as mine, about 4 - 5K is an excellent shifting point for my bike anyway!

  • Lowest is first, then up is neutral, then up are 2,3,4,5,6.

  • Nice one expertvillage idiots he is not wering a helmet

  • I would not listen to anything this guy has to say. How much credibility does someone have that wears jeans and sneakers while riding a motorcycle? He does not set a very good example of a safety minded rider. You would learn more from some of the printed material and videos available about high performance riding.

  • i feel the same way

  • What a load of Shite !!!!

  • hottie

  • don't let off the clutch so fast

  • what happens if you let off to fast?

  • @redneck500

if you let off the clutch too fast?

then the moped will just die out.

  • the bike stalls.....and its not for the bike

  • can anyone help me on "how to avoid when motorcycle jerks???

  • if you mena on the first gear then just put the bike in gear and release the clutch easly and when the bike starts to move give it gas!!

  • @constantino123 Maybe someone could if they knew what the fuck you were talking about.

  • dont drop the clutch! Not trying to be an ass, I am telling you from experience, I had a major problem about doing that, it took time to get the feel, butm you will get it!

  • would u recommend a 6'0 guy 230 lbs starting off on a 600 ? i have no riding exp whatsoever

  • thats pretty much the perfect weight for that bike...i started on a 250 and now im up to a 500 i weigh about 150 so that should be pretty good...just remember not to give it to much rpms cause 600s are actually pretty powerfull

  • I have learned its not the size of the bike, its the operator, its the knowaladge he/she has that makes that bike suitable for them or not!

  • thats not true at all!!!!!!!

  • @maverick1193 which part?

  • @maverick1193 which part?

  • @maverick1193 which part is not true?

  • you're fine, i'm 5'9 180lbs and i'm on a cbr 600 rr

  • i just got my first bike, its a 929, and I'm 6'0-180 =/ just be careful. slow throttle...

  • it really doesnt matter. im 6'3" 180 and i started on an 848

  • Can you hear it if you need to shift just like a car?

  • yea u hear the rpms go up

  • I LOVE caps

  • he's okay at teaching basics but maybe he shouldn't dress like a squid. gear up kids!

  • that help

  • Thank you for taking your time to share this information. I have found them very useful. Thank you once again.

  • sorry but what honda is? :D

  • Looks like the CBR 600RR

  • EXPERTVILLE... YOU FORGOT TO TELL THE AUDIENCE ABOUT NEUTRAL... IF A BEGINNER STARTS THEIR BIKE AND THERE NOT ON NEUTRAL, THERE ASS IS GONNA POP OFF THE BIKE! YEAH, YOU CAN START ON FIRST, BUT YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER TO KEEP THE CLUTCH PRESSED. THIS VIDEO IS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR BEGINNERS, NOT THE EXPERIENCED FOLK OUT THERE... lol

  • CAPS IS GOOD RIGHT?

  • the bike wont even start on any gear unless its neutral or you're grabbing the clutch so i dont see how your "ass is gonna pop off the bike!"

  • @pigpower85 OH HI THANKS FOR THAT IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE IT ALL CAPS I WOULD HAVE MISSED THIS. THANK YOU FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO TURN OFF YOUR CAPS LOCK. YOU ARE A VALUE TO SOCIETY AND YOUTUBE, SIR.

  • @pigpower85 oh this is what I'm worry about. I have car with 6 speed manual, but bike it different. For example if I'm on the second gear and traffic light is red a shift gear to 1st gear, and how to shift to neutral ?!!!

  • @pigpower85 That is true if you only watched this video. I do believe he covered this in a separate "start/stop" video. I think if you were taking an introductory course over the course of the day he would have already gone over that plenty.

  • @pigpower85 he does mention it in a previous video on the how to start a bike...just saying

  • @pigpower85 they're*

  • Comment removed

  • @pigpower85 this video is part of a chain lol he already explained that lol

  • @pigpower85

fuck you this video is for help only. not for everything.

  • im picking up my bike tomorrow and my buddy is going to teach me how to ride but my question is. when in 6th gear or even 3rd 4th or 5th if you hit the gear down does it take you back to first gear? or do you have to shift all the way to first gear?

meaning if im in 6th gear do i hit the gear shift 5 times to be in first or just once?

  • You have to go all the way down, but never go all the way down to first when doing speed and release the clutch otherwise you would be sliding down the road.

  • you have to shift all the way to the 1st gear, so yeah you have to shiftdown 5 times...

  • five

  • Five times to be back into first.

  • and would it be a good idea do get a hayabusa as my first bike? i really want one but, people tell me that is too much of a monster for a begginer!!!!!!!

  • DUDDE.. BUSA? are u kidding me.. ur gonna die on that for a beginner.. i ride a 2007 honda cbr600rr ( that was my first bike, still have it today) and that seemed to have alot of power for a beginner. You must be crazy to get a busa.. but its your choice. Just wear your gear..

  • CAUSE IT IS!

  • A bike at that price and power, i don't think its a very good idea

  • it wont mest up the bike?

  • if im in sixth gear, can i hold the clutch and shift all the way down to neutral with out lettin go of the clutch? help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yeah. But why would you really need 2 ?

  • Yea, you have to click down through all the gears though.

  • now what if you have to stop reallt fast and dont have time to downshift? you can still stop tho right? then you have to downshift to 1st before you take off again? correct?

  • Exactly. You dont have to be in first to take off also. I like to start in second sometimes just so I avoid shifting more

  • If u have to stop real quick pull in the clutch it will release all power given the the rear wheel.

  • yeah i understand that now. i ask the question before before i had my bike and i have never road a bike before. now im on the ride and i understand how bikes work

  • If your in sixth gear, you can hold the clutch in and downshift all the way to first if you had to, just make sure your coming to a stop or slowing the heck down because if you aint and lose control of what gear your in your in a wee bit of trouble, but yes you can downshift

  • If you let go of the clutch while in gear.... you will stall out... or jump the bike forwards, possibly injuring yourself, if not others. Just like driving a car.

  • Comment removed

  • first down and a full click up is 2nd, your talking about half a click up

  • yeah umm i followed these directions exactly - rev the engine up to 7 rpms (i assumed you meant up to 7000 right? and then let the clutch out? I am in traction now with several broken bones. Thanks for the lesson! Just kidding. this video is really useless!

  • is it difficult to ride a bike?

  • Nope

  • From my experience, once you get a good hang of releasing the clutch and accelerating at a good rate, it can't be too hard, but then again I don't have much experience. I'm just learning cause I'm turning 15 in about a month and a half and I'm gonna get my bike permit when I turn 15. But yeah uhm..my dad told me that the clutch-acceleration deal is the hardest thing I'll learn aside from hills and it only took me about...two short like..ten minute practice sessions to pick that up.

  • Riding a bike is easy.

  • This clown bangs on about confusing the front and and the clutch (which nobody has ever does) and then makes a complete fool of himself by clicking his foot up to engage what he beleives is first gear!

How long has this joker been riding for? 7...maybe 8 minutes?

  • umm .... is the shifting for a quad ( raptor 700) the same like shifting for a motorcycle

  • yup..

  • yes

  • can you help me.. i have a little honda 50 and i wear like really big boots and i cant get my foot into it and i cant lift it up :(

if you can help me please click on my name and comment.. Thank You!!!

  • here's what you do, kick you bike till you get what you want out of it

  • i dont have my own bike or anything but i always thought that most bikes have automatic shifting

it looks a little uncomfortable and slow to do this

need to hold the clutch then figure out the gears with your foot... this all sounds slow to me

  • automatic bikes, ha no way

  • They do make automatic bikes but it's crap. once you've mastered shifting, either bike or car. you'll never wanna go back to automatic.

  • I understand that but shifting yourself wont be so smooth and fast

  • shouldnt the fact that you've never realized that bikes aren't automatic tell you that it is in fact pretty smooth and fast?

  • Lol AUTOMATIC STUFF IT'S FUCKING GAY! you can loose some days trying to shift that bike manualy. i started at 14 with a 50cc motorcycle and i did it so i bet you can do it by loosing some days..don't buy automatic stuff for pussys..

  • you dont need to clutch when you shift 2 - 6 gears.................... its much smoother without the clutch and alot faster

  • only when upshifting though

  • Comment removed

  • same princip like with a car, wery easy

  • Yeah I heard about Honda and others thinking of automatic sport bikes. More like a CVT transmission. But all that's gonna do is take the true power away from a sport bike. I feel the traditional shifting will win out still.

  • lol

  • are there automatic sport bikes?

  • hahahahhaha! no.

  • why would you want a automatic sport bike.. thats retarded

just learn to shift it takes like 2 minutes of practice lol

  • I'll reply for xSTREETMAN

I just can't do that. Little old lady's can drive semis but I don't like shifting gears It's too hard and I might break a nail

How can somebody drive and shift gears at the same time? That's just to much work! I'd have to concentrate then! Now, I can sip on my latte, receive my fax, text my BFF Jill & trade stocks w/ my broker

forget that! You guys will never know the feeling of riding around clueless and oblivious to what's @ you. See U in the left lane!

  • hehe lol i was just wondering im 12....

  • Honda are making a V4 bike with a "Dual clutch" gearbox, so button shifting may be possible.

  • yes there are

  • i have a 2001 gixxer and you know on the new models it shows you the gear you're on but im just wondering if the shifting pattern it's still the same? because i saw on the gears that it also had the gear 0 which is neutral i know but is the pattern still 1st, 0, 2nd, 3rd, 4rd, 5th, 6th. or is it 0, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4rd, 5th, 6th?

this might be a dumb question but i might buy the new gixxer but it will all depend on the shifting patter. if you can send me a comment or a message back please.THANKS

  • okay, i get what your saying. but look at it this way.....( this is how i learned ) 1st is ALWAYS down...so just know that when you go down thats gonna be 1st gear...if you let go of it that will be 0 or neutral...if you go up that would be 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th...or 6th. i hope that helped.

  • 6 click 5 click 4 click 3 click 2 1/2 click Neutral 1/2/Click first, only change on most street bikes is the absence of a sixth gear, racers may use a reverse pattern, but that's probably not you
  • this is basic stuff that everyone who rides should know how to do,its good that a video is up giving useful advice

  • lol, good god, you two are unbelievable.

  • congratulations!
