  • Thank you very much Davie

  • are the partridge salar double hooks worth the money??

  • Hi helopoblgwyn,

I like them and many others do as well, it certainly helps you get a lovely shape into your fly, the price of them is not bad as they are not the most expensive...

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Davie,

I was wondering if you could please tie for us a special steelhead fly with married wings. The flies I have in mind are John Shewey's either Autumn Skies or Midnight Canyon. I hope you have the info on these patterns, if not the first can be found in either of John Shewey's Spey fly books, the second is to be found in Chris Mann's big blue tome of salmon and steelhead flies. There is a disappointing lack of married wing fly tying demonstrations out there and hopefully you will remedy.

  • Hi surreysteelheader,

I have two videos on marrying a wing which I will send you a link to, as well maybe in the future I will upload a video of one of the flies that you mentioned...

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Davie

Where can I find your material list for each one of your fly's?

All the best to you Terry

  • Hi Terry,

I'm sorry I haven't listed the materials on the videos, but if you can't make out what I have used in the video let me know and I'll get back in touch with you.

    All the best Davie

  • nice and tight

  • God, Fly tying really is an art! Keep up the good work! Any chance of a video of you on the river fishing? Thanks

  • Hi Davie

I've tied dozens of Scottish salmon flies for myself and my friends for Coho fishing in Alaska. The Cascade and Allys Shrimp are deadly. I only wish I'd watched your videos on fly tying from the very beginning. Your technique is the best I've seen. Oh well better late than never. A friend of mine in Scotland just recently put me onto your site.

  • Hi caterthun,

    Thankyou for the kind words...

    All the best Davie

  • Hi davie,

would you get away with using Dyed Squirrel Tail as a substitute for Bucktail?

    Thanks

    ~David

  • Hi WEESTRAWZ,

Yes, dyed squirrel will be very good to use especially for small flies...

    All the best Davie

  • I love watching your videos and looking at all the tips and tricks that you use to tye your flies. I could even give up buying all the fly tying magazines when I can watch these videos for free. Fly tying probably takes more skill then fishing and there are a few people I know that prefer tying flies rather then fishing them.

  • Another excellent video, 1 question whats the diffrence between chinesse cock hackles and just normal cock hackle? is it just a prefrence or is there a diffrence

    cheers

    Kendo

  • Hi Kendo,

Chinese capes are very good for all types of flies especially salmon and are basically from normal everyday chinese chickens, these capes have been used for many years. Now you can get genetically bred chickens which have a higher quality and at times are now easier to find than the chinese..

    All the best Davie

  • VERY nice!

  • Hi Davie,I am really impressed with the tips I have picked up from your tying.I am using the uni thread but am still having trouble with it snapping,Nightmare..

  • Davie

    thanks

  • hi davie, is there something wrong with your site, all videos coming up not in use, concerned i am somewhat, watching you tie your patterns, helps me retain my sanity, and gets me away from the wife for a wee while.

  • Hi smithmccrum,

Everything is working fine here but I did notice that youtube were doing maintenance work earlier on today this may be the problem..

    All the best Davie
