@thetubefan11 S stock will achieve 60MPH after all upgrades to track and stuff currently 50mph limited but 60mph is bitersweet as it will never bring back the 70mph days we had until 1998
@0000Jillsandwich0000 the maximum speed of these units is 50mph but on ocassions and thr right driver you can get 75mph out of them.. the banging noises are the bushes on the suspension that are worn . Scared of travelling on this line is all psychological the line i really safe and in there 50 year history only crashed once and that was in kilburn in 1984 .. if anything im more bothered by the new units than i have ever been about these..
Excellent video and i would say the speedo is near accurate ,,, That is some thrash its a shame the stock is going and being replaced by shit with no character !!
@gomezellas cheers! a few of them are going to warm storage after withdrawal at west ruislip should any problems happen they will return into service 2015 is when the metropolitan line will be totally S stock with no A back ups
I forgot to say thanks for these excellent cab ride vids which brought back happy memories. The new stock um the end of the Met as most of us know it!! The rot started for me when they refurbished the A60s but of course the "old girls" were then onwards of 30years old and lets not forget they are a quality build by Cravens!! a British Company!
@corinthic Return of the ghosts, the rot goes away an A60 has been earmarked to return to its silver finnish and interiors wooden floors will not return tho Health and safety rules,
The good news is at withdraw the A60s will go to warm storage at West Ruislip depot ready to go into service should there be any shortage of s stocks due to failure, The end for quality English Trains is in sight now tho
It though took me quite a while to accept the A60s after they replaced the T stock which whilst slower in acceleration did get up to speeds in excess of 60mph but oh boy did you know it!! Can of course remeber the ocassional F stock working to Watford now they were fast and would today give an A stock a run for its money.
Yep,as a regular commuter on the Met in 60s/70s the A stock regularly paced the dmus out of Marylebone but rarely out run them! The dmus usually just ahead on the uphill section between Preston Road/Northwick Park. However, the fastest train of the day were the two through Cheshams Finchley Road non stop to Moor Park or maybe Ricky. vice versa! When hitting the points outside Wembley Park on the main up at 70+ mph now that was not for the faint hearted!I can remeber actually coming off the seat!
@yadnala the A60s are known worldwide and have a huge following in the USA the fastest Underground Units ever made its a shame there days are numbered but this video proved restriction will never take away the A60s capability of reaching pre refurbishment speeds
Of course the A stock always was intended for 70mph running & its to be regretted that journey times have been slowed so much by the 50mph limit. Equally bad is that the imminent S (for standee ie: 'very few seats') stock will not restore 70mph running.
Its a pity I do not have film from one Boxing Day in the 1980's when trains were travelling to Amersham but non stopping stations between there and Rickmansworth... the downhill run probably saw us reach 80mph!
yep simon i agree . its a shame that the metropolitan line is going to loose its constrictor whit the s stocks.. i think thoes of us who traveled on the met line in its 70mph days were lucky them days are gone for ever.. but i would love to see any more vids you have of the met line in the 80s the met line is my favourite and old footage is hard to fine there so much of them in red white and blue.. i like them in there platinum finnishes.. and thanks for the great comment!
Thanks! the door was open but the driver was welcome of the camera i was in the middle of making a youtube program when this opportunity arrived so i scraped filming and got on board this train was a mega awesome experience thanks! the driver was ace

I have been on a fast S stock before but with the ride being quiter and smoother it feels much slower. Can the S stock go faster than 50mph?

I like the new trains as its a hell of a lot easier to get my bike on and off, and its a hell of a smooth ride.

Where was this taken along the line? I'm not from London, so I couldn't recognize where this was on the Met.
Outside that, its an awesome vid!
