Engineers see close calls every time they are on a run. Often the train WILL HIT a truck or car fatallly. Drivers continue to weave past crossing gates. Yet for now its un-American' to finance safer crossings. Trucks get to tear apart highways, trains 20 times more energy efficient, get no help.

#4059 looks very rebuildable...was it ? I remember seeing one of the crew baling out of the 4059 just seconds before impact.....was there only one hogger

in each unit...running solo or ??? The 4479 looks like they probably  would have salvaged it for parts and scrapped it...??

@TurbinePower69 I have heard that both units were rebuilt and are back in service. There were 3 crew members on the 1st engine in this vid and 2 on the other. Amazingly, no one was killed. Hard to believe that they would actually rebuild the 4479....that looks UGLY !.....I mean the main superstucture doesn't look too straight to me...so, if not...what would be left to rebuild?? I can see it...if it was, in fact...completely above the main frame assembly...but, MAN !!...looks to be twisted from one end to the other...and to think they ALL survived is a miracle in and of, itself...just hope they were'nt injured too badly.

I have to say this. Taps is something that should NOT be used for trains. I heard this song twice in my life one being my father. That is two times to many. I don't think it is appropriate to use unless for a memorial video to a Veteran. My opinion on it.

4059 looks repairable. Most of the damage is to the crew door. 4479 however, I'm sure was scrapped at the scene as it doesn't look movable. I wonder why more railroads don't do like CSX and have the crews call out the blocks. That way, the dispatcher knows if there is a problem on the line. May have avoided this tragic accident.
