i am a returning jazz violinist from the 70's and 80's and now getting ready to play again. This group sounds so clean in their presentation. well balance sound very pleasing to the ear. thanks for the music. Does this group do any different stlyes.
If it sounds good , it is good. I play by ear on a violin on most music. But at the same time i notice this group had a basic theme going through the piece , is that true in most jazz music I have to agree with other comments in being boring, maybe just a change in the approach. The group plays very well.
TISQ is the best all-string jazz group i know. i like this peice, and all of their works. but i especially love skylife, julie-o, la dance so people who are intrested in this quartet should have a listen to it.
This is a little disappointing. They're obviously playing in the modal style which characterized Trane's later work, but they don't really have the intensity. Bowed instruments are similar to horns in that the bow is like the breath. Yet, they don't really take advantage of that. They play it too tamely.
Is 33 too old to learn violin or cello to a good standard?

@DjangoVanGogh no. In just 8-10 years you could be playing concertos.

This is some of the most innovative stuff that has come out of the classical world in years.

i never cared much for jazz string players (except for the common bassists, guitarists, and pianists) until i heard this quartet

Only the cellist and the violinist with hair can really swing a solo.
