I am from Oakland. love it!!! It has a diverse background, and immense culture. Tho the cost of living is high, that how it is in the BAY!! they trying run the black out. we refuse. No where else on earth can you go somewhere get low -income housing, side shows, hoes executives, business men, civil rights movements, and strong BLACK men and woman. We have lack of opportunity's, but not lack of spirit. Violence is a bliss but we shall not be removed. GET ACTIVE NOT OPPRESSIVE!!

The shooting of an innocent man has led to violent demonstrations, outrageous displays that have destroyed the private property of innocent people, and put lives in danger. Emotions are through the roof! There's no question that this officer who has quit the force must be held accountable, but these riots accomplish NOTHING. Outrage is surely justified by the astronomical crime rate, but the anger of Oakland's people overcomes any rational thought.

Your belief that riots are useless is understandable given that violence obscures their purpose. However, you make the questionable assumption that these riots--even including their violence--does not assist in sending the message that the public demands justice. I would suggest not being so quick to diminish the purpose of public outrage, however misdirected, given that every sector of government shows itself to be happily abusive if not held accountable. i remember when i was in high school at fremont high, and working part time at dennys, and because i had to pay rent i had to quit school to be able to afford my rent and start working full time. my point here is the the high cost of living in oakland is part of the high school drop outs. thats just my opinion.
