Yea what a great system that is... btw, every Canadian I know doesn't whine about their stress free healthcare, but are terrified of vacationing to the US without travelers insurance because they might get hurt and end up with tens of thousands in medical bills.

did you know that in NY insurance companies have to cover breast reductions? that just raises the cost of premiums for everyone, so insurance becomes less affordable. while i'm sure most these kinds of mandates were made with good intentions, there are unintended results that end up hurting those you are trying to help.

@oliveoyl002 I was paying for my own health insurance, it was about 1/3rd of my paycheck and when I finally needed medical services I was denied because of an unrelated preexisting condition. Yea what a great system that is... btw, every Canadian I know doesn't whine about their stress free healthcare, but are terrified of vacationing to the US without travelers insurance because they might get hurt and end up with tens of thousands in medical bills.

The government as a whole is broken and corrupt. They continue to spend trillions of dollars while borrowing 50% of it. Before inflation can be stopped and prices stabalized we have to end government spending. The government is too massive and has become a burden on the population. In order to pay for all of Obama's programs the Federal Reserve is printing paper dollars like crazy. That makes the dollar extremely unstable. It will not last much longer at the rate Obama is printing it.

Some states have regulations that prevent insurance companies from discriminating against sick people; some states don't. Insurance is cheaper in states that don't regulate because companies there only cover healthy people. Insurance, of course, is useless if ur NOT sick.
Young/healthy people would readily buy deregulated insurance, which means they are no longer putting premiums toward sick people, which means sick people can no longer afford healthcare, which means the system crashes.

Umm, what?? Medicare/aid is not necessarily for those who "refuse" to work, it's for those who can't afford or don't have insurance at the time of injury.That's ridiculous to say "refuse to work", are you gonna tell that to the millions of fixed income elderly people who CAN'T work??? MedicAid is what you can get if you make too much money to get free insurance but enough to pay for basic coverage. People fall through the cracks because they are uninformed about access to Medicare and Medicaid.

Doctors/nurses in govt managed HC systems are as good as in private ones. It is the govt. mismanagement we are worried about!

Govt. managed HC plan in Britain led expansion of their system such that it is now the 3rd largest employer (after Chinese army and Indian Railways). Any talk about change to remove inefficiencies leads to talks about loss of livelihood/jobs. We DONT want to link quality of HC with loss of livelihood. U cannot provide the best since that may involve removing off inefficient departments. A double whammy! Thats downright immoral.

The govt. managed programs like Medicare, etc have proven to be financially not sustainable. Given this and the track-record of govt. performance of managing health-care for the last 40+ years, how can the govt. role be promoted to handle health-care for all Americans?

1) Allow ppl buy insurance across state lines
2) Allow individuals to get tax credits for the health insurance they buy (much like the employers get today)
3) Tax benefits for doctors serving the needy
4) Stop insurance comps to lobby Congress
5) Reduce war spending and use the money here on HC
6) Remove junk state mandated premiums (like pregnancy check for a 75 year old woman)

We are proposing that we keep our current doctors and hospitals, and simplify *payment* with a Medicare-like system, which has proven to be 10 times more efficient than private insurance.

we already have gov't run health care. the gov't -indirectly-controls what is produced and for whom it is produced. all this bill does is it takes it to the next level. the problems will just get worse. the solution to problems created by gov't controlling health care will not be solved by more gov't control of h-care.
and your claim that medicare is more efficient proves only that you either don't know what medicare is, or you don't know what efficient is. $2.8 billion of waste isn't efficient.

Medicare isn't broken, we simply reached a point where we have 78,000,000 baby boomers retiring and thus going ON medicare after Bush just drove us trillions into debt to pay for a war against innocent people. Medicare may not be perfect, but its better than letting our elders die in the street. The free market HAD a shot in this country, and they are FAILING, this is WHY it needs to be reformed. USA is only #37 in health care, behind all the SOCIALIZED MEDICINE countries!

did you know that in NY insurance companies have to cover breast reductions? that just raises the cost of premiums for everyone, so insurance becomes less affordable. while i'm sure most these kinds of mandates were made with good intentions, there are unintended results that end up hurting those you are trying to help.

My grandfather already paid for it. He was a WWII vet and he worked every day of his life. He paid his taxes. Are you suggesting that old people who can't afford their medicine should be allowed to die in the streets? How many of your relatives and neighbors are you buying medicine for? I'm saying that basic health care is a RIGHT. It shouldn't be doled out according to ability to pay.

medicare isn't free you and i pay for it every time we get paid the gov't takes a bite out of your paycheck before we even get to see it. maybe if we got our entire paycheck we would have more savings so we could afford better health care when we're older.

FALSE LOGIC: Because people "die on the streets" for more reasons then one, because of that we should not have public charity healthcare.
Medicare is free to the laboring class, those to who we pay starving wages, those who do all our hard and undesirable labor.
Gut question: Are we given an ability to earn more then we deserve as a test, to see if we pass the excessive wealth down to those less fortunate where it belongs?
