"It doesn't really help me it just makes me feel cooler." This made me laugh.Unfortunately my keyboard tray is not big enough for this keyboard so i guess i won't be getting it.
I can see why you want a loud keyboard. But I like mine as quiet as possible. I also don't get the obsession with mech keyboards, mostly bought by hardcore gamers (hardcore as in no other hobbies or social life) which makes even less sense. Maybe a programmer, or someone typing high volumes of stuff, I can see where that would be useful if they are mulitasking etc, but gamers, I think they just love to have the fanciest toys to show off.
So you spend hundreds of dollars on keyboards without checking first if its actually mechanical even though you want a mechanical keyboard? Mind = Blown
Ahh so annoying person, funny thing is that you said you didnt like your other keyboard cuz of the sound they make, well... instead of spending shit loads of money on keyboards like that, why dont you look that info up before you buy them at a store or in a review...
@xJDKx I have no idea. I have a drawer full of the things, and I don't keep track of which ones came from where. I would assume so, as the USB protocol limits the rollover to 4-5 keys I think. Therefore to get the full power of n-key rollover you'd need it to be on PS/2; but I'm merely postulating a guess.
@tsilb No, it just means that they don't support _every_ three-key combination. 3KRO implies that it supports any combination of three keys, which most keyboards do not. ASX, LShift + RShift + alphabet, and W + Shift + Space are examples of combinations that may not work on a regular 2KRO keyboard.
@tsilb Ctrl and shift count as modifier keys. Some keyboards have optimized matrixes for certain keys only to save on costs. Atleast that's what I've heard.
Thanks for the vid. The way I see it, I don't have markings on my piano what would make me look like a beginner. Why then do I need markings on my keyboard? :P
@nikanj Piano keys are laid out much more intuitively, ranging from low to high notes. Keyboards, on the other hand, have a whacko QWERTY layout that some genius at some point decided was optimal for typing. Not having key labels is good for beginners because they can't cheat and look at the labels (thus being forced to touch type), and good for expert typists / geeks because we know where all the keys are and like to show that off.
@tsilb The reason why QWERTY keyboards are used is because back when typewriters were used, the QWERTY keyboard setup was optimal for reducing jams in the typewriter, by putting the frequently used letters far away and what not. We just stuck with the design out of habit.
Hi - Great video very informative. I've just ordered a Das Keyboard Ultimate so I'm excitedly awaiting its arrival. Just wanted to ask about your amazing monitor setup. I have a Dell 24" 1920x1200 as my main display with a 21" 1600x1200 Dell as an aux, are all 4 of those monitors connected to one PC, is it through Eyefinity and what do you use the portrait monitors for?
FYI Unicomp now produces IBM M keyboards with USB connectors and buckling spring keys.
@spankwalla This video is out of date. Currently running six HP 24" 1080p widescreens and a 26" 1080p HDTV on my main system. No eyefinity, just using cheapo HD4670 cards. Portrait monitors for coding, documents, and websites.
@tsilb I gotta get me some portrait monitors for coding... there isn't anything more annoying than having to scroll through code and trying to figure out whats what...
tsilb, I realize that you game sometimes. Now a lot of people have said that they prefer Cherry brown switches for gaming rather than the Cherry blue. The keyboard that you bought, the Das Ultimate Model S keyboard, have Cherry blue switches. Now in your opinion, what do you think gaming feels like on the Das Ultimate Model S keyboard? Is your gaming ability hindered by the Cherry blue switches, or is your gaming experience improved versus an experience on say, the G15?
@PeteyBoy10150 The only blue thing I see on this keyboard is the lock LEDs; and they're dark enough not to interfere with gameplay.
The keys themselves are responsive and don't require extra force to press. On other keyboards, it would take me a moment to figure out why my character wasn't crouching; I had hit the wrong key or landed between two keys. On the Das, there is no question.
Can I buy this in sweden, with swedish layout? How do I write in swedish with this?

Back-lit is to see the keyboard in the dark if you play in the dark but I guess people buy back-lit keyboards to learn how to type as well.

These are about $90 (regular) to $100 (silent) now; most keyboards are 2KRO, not 3KRO =P

@hkmix So most keyboards don't support ctrl-shift-esc to open the task manager? That's odd.
