You need to try cat food and fish. You can try feeding it frozen/thawed smelts that you can get at any grocery store. You can also buy either live, or frozen thawed minnows online. Do not feed goldfish however because when a goldfish is being digested in a snakes body it depletes vitamins for some reason. Also, if you switch to just fish or just cat food, you'll have to supplement with a snake vitamin powder that you can buy online or in pet stores.
absolutely not, garter snakes do eat rodents occasionally in the wild, but for the most part they do not, they mostly eat water-based prey items such as frogs, fish, and earthworms, but also eat toads, and well rodents and sometimes birds, but rarely, and fish do NOT ALWAYS deplete vitamins, for they eat them quite often in the wild, it depends on what fish and from where you get them, in the wild, they eat more than one different type of prey, so where one is laking in vitamins the other has
yea that should be ok just dont over feed it, and make sure you keep the enclosure clean as well as the water, you should change the water daily or every other day at least
well it's a 3 foot snake so, it should have no problem, all snakes are born with the ability to swim so yea that should be ok, that water bowl in the video was big enough for a 4-5 foot snake to soak in so yea and it's also important for shedding too
well sort of, she would eat anything, and i mean anything, one time the local pet store had some old stillborn baby rabbits which are friggen huge, about twice that, and he gave them to me for free, and i thought what the hell, so i threw it in there and WHAM!! she gobbled it up i was like what the, and my neighbor saw it eating a baby bird once before i caught it
not the traditional style of fangs as in pit vipers like that of the rattlesnake or rear-fanged like that of the boomslang, they have elongated maxillary teeth that are located posteriorly on the head which have what is called a duvernoy's gland which is a gland that produces toxic saliva but they dont have an effective means of delivering this so unless they chew and work those back teeth in you then you wont have to worry
um yes but not in a sense that would harm you, like i said it'd have to depend on you allergies, ive been bitten sooooooo many time at least a thousand and the only thing ive ever gotten from them was a little bit itchy and bleeding, so dont worry your fine they are still completely harmless, and um no it wouldnt be hungry it snapped at you because it thought you were gonna eat it, it was a defensive display, dont worry the more you handle it the more comfortable itll get with you
hey dont be scared, i just had my texas garter snake sink his back teeth into the webbing between my pointer and middle finger and he got in there deep, he was chewing for about a minute then he finally let go, it just bled a little, and itched a bit until i washed it with hot water and put hydrogen peroxide on it its fine nothing happened, so dont worry
ahhh yea thats what it was called, im srry there buddy if i got my terms mixed uo but there was no need for you to fly off the handle i accept that i was wrong this time and you are right, anyway that is the only thing ive messed up on so you cant tell everyone not to listen to my advice because 90% of the time its correct, d dont need a hater so im srry if i got the terms mixed up man
well, lets just say that it took several years of experience to get it just right, and im not sure but that snake was a special one, all i had to do really was wash the mouse and then smear frog, earthworm, and fish scent all over it till it was soaked then i had to slowly wiggly it around on the ground of the cage until it just gorged it, eventually it would only eat rodents, it once ate a couple of still born baby rabbits and those are huge
I miss this snake, it was almost 5 feet in length, it was by far the longest snake that i have ever caughten but for the greater good i let her go, maybe i'll catch her again this summer, ive caughten some pretty huge garter snakes up here in northern minnesota
