Polymer Clay TV Working With Cane Slices

When I cut my slices the cane usually gets flat in each cut... So I lose the rounded shape of the slice... I try to cut the after 30 minutes inside the fridge, so it turns hard and don't change the shape in the cutting process... But, I see in this video that you cut them and they're perfect, what's the secret? Are they pre cooked?
