Hacking is stealing someone's password or information over the Internet or entering a server/database without proper authorization. Hacking, by nature, is illegal; that is when it is done to it's true definition.

Facebook isn't loosening up the privacy settings to help me make friends. They're doing it so they can make money. Why should I let them?

A hack is an unauthorized/unintended modification to an app or system, usually through undocumented features or vulnerabilities. Still, great work. A lot of people who should have no idea how FB privacy settings work. Last week I had to tell a recording artist that he had just posted his phone number for the world to see, by posting it on a friend's wall.
A hack is not an illegal act, you're thinking of a crack. A HACK is an elegant or simple solution to problem. It's a quick fix. Hacks aren't just good things, they're GREAT things.

All you did was use Facebook's standard interface and settings. I was hacking when your parents were younger than you are, I don't require a lecture. I actually commended you for your security awareness! I see adolescents are as defensive as ever.
Hack is part of the name of the web series, Hailey Hacks. It's called that cause it's illiterative (look at that, you're right, I do understand English. It's kind of a poetic use of the word.
And yeah, defensive, but it's not cause of youth, it's because (and you know this if you were hacking way back way back before the dawn of time) people freak when you use the word.
