Agree with 'Fluffbunny' reminds me of Oz in the seventies driving through the unsealed road 'mulabar stereo blaring Kombi van bouncing all over the place .
Great times and then I foolishly came across to Gothic gloomy NZ and been here ever since wishing to F*** I had never moved in the first place.
Ah love, sweet bird of paradise makes you do funny things.
Drove up from the Riverlands to Quorn to put a mates HZ V8 on a trailer and bring it back home, drove through the same area as your picks..Thanks for reminding me of how beautiful it is...
Australia is lucky to have Russell Morris and his classics. Incredible irony prevented his story becoming world-wide smash hits. Thanks Russell for your songs.
Mate, thanks for the post. Great song, great pics and having grown up in Orange and Wilbriggie (near Griffith) in NSW I can relate to all the pics and I just love the song
takes me back to me old home town of Quorn in the Flinders with devils peak in the background and the old pichi richi rail line and countryside. great pics.
I always associate this classic song with an RAAF recruitung ad, with an F111C flying over 8/8 cloud. Still in the Air Force now, so I guess Russell Morris was a 'life-changer' for me.
There was a time when things were simpler in Aus...this song is a wonderful expression of that. I remember this song as a kid, and i loved it so much. NOW, all we have is fear, anxiety and greed - good thing we all have good friends and great music to listen to huh? - thanks for posting it mate!
Know the area well myself. I used to DJ for Omega Disco based in Whyalla. We travelled all over Sth Aus - Ceduna, Roxby Downs, Coober Peddy, Port Pirie, etc... Lovely part of the world!
This is such a beautiful song!!! There´s no words for its beauty! I can´t understand why people don´t listen a music like this and they prefer... well, you know, what they prefer.. But I don´t want to write the names of the popular "singers" and "artists" under this amazing song... :-)
I remember being in primary school when this released and suddenly I found 'modern' music - and that 2GB wasn't the only Sydney radio station! Yay for 2MS :)
I've seen Russell perform a few times - never ceases to amaze!! I'm sure people will still be listening to these classic songs in 50 years when most of us are gone. Wish I could leave such a legacy!!
Loved this as a 12 yo, was re-aquainted with it in the uniquely Australian "The Dish". You've done a superb job with the accompanying montage here. Ty.
i rember listening to Russell Morris, crowded housd, split enz some 60s 70s and 80s bands when i was under 5 years old he's a great singer and i love his music

You Aussie's and Kiwi's behave, this reminds me of high school, lol, will the last person to leave New Zealand turn out the light was what we used to say lol xx like sibling rivalry but we love each other, my kids are half Aussie and half Kiwi, so who does my son go for, The All Blacks lol
I lived for 5 years in Broken Hill and the landscapes in this clip remind me of my time there. It is an amazing landscape and those plains remind me so much of Mundi Mundi plains outside Silverton. Beautiful! Great song too.
absolutely off the beaten track, just seeing those emus reminded me of a funny story my 14 yr old daughter told me, here in NM,USA. A friend of hers received five baby emus for her birthday..., she was not amused. I was, though.
love the song and love Russ' voice, love the song rachels coming home too,Russ' voice has that haunting quality to it, I was sooo in love with him when i was young and boy was he spunky!! I'm a kiwi by the way.
Having watched the dish on dvd and enjoyed the movie and this track I am delighted to have found the same version here. Well done toberwomble for this posting. Cheers
Ah, Australian. That would explain how it got on to the soundtrack for, "The Dish," an Aussie movie about their Parkes radio telescope they used to communicate with the Apollo astronauts.
We were in ozzieland too.The song sure brings memories of the time when were there. Heard Russell Morris and this song over the radio back then. Those wah wah guitar lines when they ring out, its like going back in time....thanks for posting. (we brought his cd back)
My family and I lived in Melbourne, when I was a kid between 1968 and 1977 before retuning to the USA. I remember this song very well as one of my favorites of all time. Thanks for posting and brining back many fond memories of Ozzieland!

Definitely the greatest song from Russell Morris. What a perfect finale to the soundtrack of 'The Dish'.
Another of my favorites, my second all-time favorite, is 'Flower Garden' by Nick Lampe.
Although little known and obscure, it was a fantastic 1970 song. It didn't achieve much success elsewhere, but in Melbourne, it was a moderate hit.
There is a youtube video of him singing it, from a 1971 TV appearance. Don't miss it.
