In Holland the marines are like this, well we are organized but humor is a part of the marines :). I might join the marines aswell, a good friend of mine is in the marines-coprs and all he says is: it's awesome. My country is what I want to defend so maybe I'll be defending it one day.
The best scene of this movie is when they enlist. The recruiter goes through the "homosexuality" question (1981 was long before "don't ask, don't tell"). Harold Ramis' reply, in typical job interview fashion, "No. But we are willing to learn."
@menotellname i agree. ramis had some of the best lines in the film. like when he bet bill he couldnt do 5 push-ups "youre about ready for the special olympics."
Love this scene. remind me of my basic training days in Fort Knox, ky. Those tanks are old. M60A3 . i trained on the Abrams. We sang funny cadences and we got the best platoon award out of 5 platoons in Delta 2/13 Bandits. Strike Fast kick Ass is our motto.
I've never seen this entire movie but every time I watch this clip I think it's funny that Harold Ramis says, "Hey, we're walkin'!" But how come he says it? Were they all told beforehand that they were going to have to learn how to walk? I guess so.
You know, I would find it very cool if you could have all the marching platoon members in this scene dress up in Ghostbuster outfits and wear proton-packs (minus the hats) and have Hulka wear a Ghostbuster outfit (minus the proton-pack) but still wear the drill instructor hat. But still have them sing whatever song it is that they are singing.
Hey, I thought basic Drill & Ceremonies procedures say you're supposed to order a "right face" and then march the troops (not a "left face" like here).
Marching is great. I am in the US Auxilary Airforce AKA Civil air patrol. We march/run in formation while singing cadences like this. Weve even sung this i love it!
Left. Right. Left. Right. You stay in place. Left. Right. Left!!! Jeez, Elmo Blum (Judge Reinhold) NOT so high with the knees. Next time, stay low on the ground with the knees low.
If I was the Sergeant, I would be proud! XD

One of the best comedies of modern times. They did a great tribute to Manfred Mann's 1964 classic here too - Doo Wah Diddy..
