@Lecrayen Not necessarily - it's possible to very quickly make obsidian using a bucket of water, a bucket of lava, and a bit of skill

@Lecrayen Nothing was a mistake - I made what I needed when I needed it. As for planting sugarcane, this is a SPEED challenge - I don't exactly have the time to wait for it to grow. Also, you made several mistakes. You didn't capitalise the "haha" or the first "you" and you said that I didn't make a bed even though I did.

Finally, instead of being a d-bag and posting a nitpicking comment (which no one thinks is cool), perhaps you should try and do better.

It's a shame that this challenge was issued before swamp biomes were introduced. I made a new world for 1.8 and found a whole ton of mushrooms right of the bat. In fact I haven't even done any mining yet and I have about 5 mushroom stews, 16 steak and 10 porkchops. ;P

You had the lava, all you had to do was make a frame of a portal and slowly fill it with lava while turning it into obsidian with the water. You would never need a diamond pick. You could've had it...

@MrJacobkip Hahaha that's how I was planning to make the portal, but I didn't have water - I lost my water bucket =p to make the portal that way in time I needed two buckets, one for lava and one for water. I would have had to find iron, find more coal, smelt the iron, make a bucket, find water and then make the portal. Not to mention I'd then need to find the mushroom I needed.

BUT, I'm going to be doing a Speed Challenge Revisit video at some stage and I'll let you guys vote on which one I do

Yo static, ul with the challenge. I completed it, within 13 mins. When I spawned, there was a red mushroom beside me, so i went looking for sugar cane, found some right beside a cave, when into the cave and there was a dungeon right beside the entrance, there was 5 wheet, 2 string, 6 iron and a few saddles, then the rest was a piece of cake ^^. Also, when i went to the nether, there was a brown mushroom patch right beside my portal.

@777static777 also, you wouldve needed a diamond pick to mine the obsidian... unless you did a mould, in that case however, you woulve needed at least 2 buckets. great video though, loved it all

@SuperAwesome409 I wasn't going to use a pick or a mould - if you place the lava and then quickly place the water beside it, it turns to obsidian and you can use this trick to build the portal. Yep, that's mainly why throwing away that water bucket screwed my chances =p

@DaWarGod There was, but only lava source blocks become obsidian - the rest of it becomes cobblestone.

you know you had lava right? take a tutorial on how to build a netherportal with lava/water it's super easy, so you could have made it.

@svennesvan Haha I don't need a tutorial on how to do that man; that's exactly what I was planning to do (I've known how to do that for a long time). But the point was that I threw away my bucket of water and so although I could place the lava, I wouldn't be able to change it to obsidian. I also had no iron, so I would have had to smelt whatever ore I had, make a bucket, find a stream of water, collect it, and THEN make the portal... and I was almost out of time as it was.

@LRRaptor Because my plan for getting the other mushrooms was to go to the nether (remember, this was before the 1.6 update and so mushrooms were still pretty hard to come by). I wasn't about to try and find some diamond so I could mine out some obsidian and make a portal, so I was going to make the portal by using one bucket for lava and one for water. You place a bucket of lava and then quickly place water next to which turns it into obsidian, and steadily make a portal. So, I needed the water

@Zane1105rsvids well, I didn't HAVE to, but this was before the 1.6 update and so mushrooms were quite rare, and so I didn't want to waste my time exploring, looking for mushrooms that I'd probably never come across, especially when I was so close to winning the challenge (all I needed was one brown mushroom). In the Nether, however, mushrooms are much more plentiful, so I figured I'd have better luck going there for mushrooms.

Remember during the night I was walking around and heard a creeper taking fall damage, turned around and there was nothing there? I thought he'd fallen off the hill or something and was following me... turns out he was already following me but fell into that hole XD I had no idea he was there, so that hole saved me from being blown to bits =D

I definitely want to try this challenge again at some stage but I liked how challenging it was during 1.5

now that 1.6.4 is out it might be harder of a challenge to get seeds or even better not just the tall grass but the tall grass that looks like a mini pine tree :) (i find them to be rarer)

@NickWithFro Regular members of Youtube have an upload limit imposed on their videos of 15 minutes. You need to become a Youtube partner to have the limit removed. Google Youtube Partner to find the relevant specifications for becoming one, I have no idea unfortunately. Hope that helps.

@Triral7 Not 100% true; I'm still not a partner yet but don't have the 15min time limit enforced. I read somewhere that whether or not you get the limit removed has something to do with your compliance with youtube's rules and a couple of other factors. I'm guessing a little luck may be involved.

I'm thinking of, in the future, giving my subs the choice of which one of my failed challenges I revisit and have one last go at.

@scorpweb Haha it's funny you mention that - that was actually one of the reasons I chose to do the challenge now instead of working on the spawner. I'm kinda making these challenges a mock competition between myself and Etho and I wanted to make it as fair as possible. The update would make the mushroom part easier for me (a huge advantage since that's the hardest part) but would make the wheat harder (due to seeds only being found in long grass). This way it's fair ; )

@kingoffma Thanks man. Yeah, I'm really tempted to give this challenge another shot at some stage. I think this could be done extremely quick in a duo... although it might possibly take a little while (even with two) to get the bonemeal for fast-growing wheat, which would limit the time to an extent. That being said, I think I prefer doing these solo; that way if I fail ridiculously, there's no one to blame but myself =p
