I saw a east Indian man taking pictures of what looked to be the garbage cans at every stop on the Canada line from the Langara station to the Olympic station. He was as well being quite secretive about it as he tucked his black jacket over the camera in between stops. This was in mid Nov. If you have kids I would caution taking the sky train during the Olympics. I recently informed the sky train upon the request of the announcements to tell them of any suspicious activity.

To ignorantly say the games cost billions is purposely misleading. First , typically infrastructure costs are not included in games budgets. The Canada line, Convention Centre, and Whistler Hwy are good examples of why not. All three were not built exclusively for the Olympics and are going to be in use for several decades and not just 2 weeks.
Furthermore, Olympics or no Olympics, these projects were going to be built anyways. Perhaps expedited, but again were going to be built regardless.

The protesters had their say, they ran the NO side of the pleboscite and lost 65-35. They lobbied the IOC and lost there. It's decided. Peaceful protest is your right, roughing up families isn't. That woman had every right to watch the entertainment with her kids. It was the protestors who were hell bent on ruining a family event. It wasn't the mom who put her children in a protest zone it was the protestors who put themselves in a family event. Even though some of the protestors points were valid, their methods did nothing to gain the support of the general public. The olympics are coming in 2010 regardless... I think it is time to except that.
While you make some good points, people need to start thinking about more important issues. Instead of bringing their children to an event like that, bring them to an event that is actually benefiting a good cause. If everyone just "excepted" that shit happens, all sorts of bad stuff would happen. People wouldn't have as much freedom and black people wouldn't have rights.
I think people are thinking about bigger issues but every once in a while an event comes to a neighborhood so we take advantage of its convenience so we attend and spend some quality time with our kids. I believe that all sides should be heard, but all sides are not being heard. This results in people having to take extreme action. Nothing would get done if people didn't stick up for what they believed in. Protests are a legal way to do something, but a lot of the time they don't do shit. They only way something is going to be done if someone takes more extreme measures.

I lived in Vancouver all my life. The ONLY reason it has grown was because of the Asian investors. Its natural beauty. It doesnt require a $1 BILLION dollar advertising blitz. Very seldom do olympics generate money. YOU LOSE money. Ask Montreal, and Greece. 3rd world countries also blow billions into this thing....its a party! To ignorantly say the games cost billions is purposely misleading. First , typically infrastructure costs are not included in games budgets. The Canada line, Convention Centre, and Whistler Hwy are good examples of why not. All three were not built exclusively for the Olympics and are going to be in use for several decades and not just 2 weeks.
Furthermore, Olympics or no Olympics, these projects were going to be built anyways. Perhaps expedited, but again were going to be built regardless.

I wish i could've been apart of that protest. The Vancouver olympics is a ridiculous idea. Not only is it going to drift B.C. towards the direction of "Police State", but anybody trying to protest is going to get tasered spot-on sight. On a side note, all of the homeless people will be locked away in some kind of insane aslyum, or just taser victims, to make the city look 'nice', I know this may sound farfetched, but look around people.

As for the gov't taxing us for the games, well as long as the games are handles afterward like they were in Calgary I think we will be ok. However the Olympic village fiasco was ridiculous, and the security budget is too high and is overkill I must say. I wish the feds would step in more and take on some of the burden for these costs.

You also fail to realize that there are good points to the Olympics, they have created about 20,000 jobs, and increased the GDP by almost a billion. Yes there will be a cost, but not to the extreme most people think.

That woman had every right to watch the entertainment with her kids. It was the protestors who were hell bent on ruining a family event. It wasn't the mom who put her children in a protest zone it was the protestors who put themselves in a family event. Even though some of the protestors points were valid, their methods did nothing to gain the support of the general public. The olympics are coming in 2010 regardless... I think it is time to except that.

While you make some good points, people need to start thinking about more important issues. Instead of bringing their children to an event like that, bring them to an event that is actually benefiting a good cause. If everyone just "excepted" that shit happens, all sorts of bad stuff would happen. People wouldn't have as much freedom and black people wouldn't have rights.

I think people are thinking about bigger issues but every once in a while an event comes to a neighborhood so we take advantage of its convenience so we attend and spend some quality time with our kids. This protest was upsetting to kids that were just to young to understand. I believe that all sides should be heard, but all sides are not being heard. This results in people having to take extreme action. Nothing would get done if people didn't stick up for what they believed in. Protests are a legal way to do something, but a lot of the time they don't do shit. They only way something is going to be done if someone takes more extreme measures.
