I'll tell you why, the gates were opened to let the reservior at Thirlmere drain, that's why. Next thing we know there is an 8ft torrent of water forcing everything in it's path down Main Street.
this was not mother nature at work this was Weather Manipulation ...to push the Global Warming agenda ....think I am wrong look it up ...look for the lines over your head .....I bet this area had a lot just before the so called downpour .
Was watching them tonight on countryfile ...BBC ...and farmers being told to sell their land ..who to MONSANTO maybe ...look this up as well ..
@snaed27: no, there is no "so called downpour" involved. it was a true downpour that cumbria has never seen before, and this is a county that is infamous for harsh weather.
also, an investigation is currently on going into united utilities releasing 220 million gallons from a resevoiur (thrilmere) into an already patrially flooded valley.
Weather Manipulation is just sceptics bull crap who always tries to find conspiracies in everything that happens
The point I am making is this was no act of Mother Nature .....I have NO doubt it rained and was of an unnatural heavyness...and helped along by the sounds of it ....and farmers not getting much help at all and told to sell their land I am not a sceptic as you suggest ...the reality is Global Warming has been proved to be a huge scam .....that will involve Huge taxes on people ....not corperations ...
i already figured global warming was a scam, or scare mongery before the scientists had to admit they faked their figures on it.
past weather paterns should tell people that. several feet snow drifts burying roads, vehicles, railways, and even trains in early 60's, half that again in early 80's, severe drought about 77. goes full circle.
mother nature won't let us polute this planet too much. these freaks of nature in weather wipes out vehicles and homes that cause co2, atleast for a while.
i wouldn't say its Human greed, but more that we dont look ahead.
we are all guilty of it. every one of us, either from driving, or mobile phones, as thats all land fill . washing machines, the never ending purchases of clothing, food, . also not to far in the future water will run out, i dont want to be on the planet when the civil wars start
as already Spain has a water shortage, already rioting has been in the streets.. I cant imagine what Cockermouth and the people of the small village must have gone through, as i live in London and never ever want to be about if the thames ever broke its banks
1Timothy 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
correct, but only to 1 lane of houses, with a rare occasion it effects 1 half of main street, until they put a 10-15ft mount of earth to stop it in between.
that night, it breached that mount, and flooded streets never before been at risk of flooding because of distance and height from the rivers.
investigations currently on going into united utilities releasing 220 million gallons of water from a reseviour that night, suspected of sealing the fate of keswick, cockermouth and workington.
I have become very fond of Cockermouth over the last two years, and it is gutting to see how the flooding will devastate the center of the town. Thoughts and prayers out to all the residents of Cumbria, and especially Cockermouth, Workington and Keswick. Thanks for the upload and keep it coming - only way to follow the story in the US.

the name is funny

name comes from the town being built on the mouth of the river cocker and derwent.
some buildings there do get flooded, not often, but i stood and watched buildings that are well up and away from the river.
to give an idea of the amount of rain that came in 24hrs, it would take 6months to drop that amount @ normal rates.
it breached walls 10-12ft high by several ft, & embankent in memorial gardens around 15 ft.
2 bridges @ workington survived 150yrs of cumbrias harsh weather til that night.
