Actually, Xavi is better in shooting, He scores some free kick goals and he's not that bad at long shots. It's just that Xavi is a playmaker and he doesn't go up to actually score that much but he's shown he's capable of long ranged shots. Also, Xabi Alonso's crosses and long passes aren't that much better than Xavi's. Just by a bit. But Xavi no doubt has the best grounders out of all footballers at this period of time.

having said that however alonso has one hell of a shot on him and is deadly accurate from a deadball. alonso sits deeper in midfield and controls the flow of the game whereas xavi is most effective when hes side is attacking. am i wrong? alonso is a brilliant player and so is xavi, i believe they are very close... almost equal in quality and ability. in my honest opinion i would rather have alonso in my team. but thats just me, spain are very ver yvery lucky to have both of these lads.

Either way, having them both would be effective. But to be honest, Xabi isn't really the best holding/defensive midfielder out there. Just the best deep-lying playmaker.
