I owned a 1959! Serious . . . bought it in Singapore in 1968. Then it was but a 9 year old guitar. In fact I always got hacked when I saw slightly younger axes that had intricate fret inlaid frets. I returned to the UK in 1971 and hooked up with my first UK band as well as my first girl - car was needed so I flogged the 335 to a shop in London for £250 . . . a lot of money then. It was years later when I realised just how special that guitar was, and yes I know how much they're now worth thanks.

Videos like this are why I love Phil X's demos for Fretted Americana. Phil showing NO FEAR rocking out on a 335 like this. Too many blues/elevator music played on these things on youtube. I personally have an Epiphone Dot and just play it through Fuzz pedals all the time. Sounds heavenly through a Big Muff!

I read somewhere that the humbucker in EVH's original Frankenstein Strat came from a 58' Gibson 335 bridge pickup that he found, used, in a music shop in Pasadena, CA. Can anyone confirm that? Not so much where he bought it but from what kind of guitar it came from? Thanks

Yes, that's correct. EVH was a huge fan of 335's but Dave apparently told him he looked like Roy Orbison on stage instead of a hard rock God.

Those guitars are sleepers where they might look old fashioned they play and sound incredible. I've had a few ES series from the 60s and they all were musical instruments even though I didn't keep them.

My favs were the es330 with the p90s and trapeze bridge. They do crazy things.
