Hey whenever you get a chance if you can tell me what was needed to put this engine in did you need a new harnest etc computers and all if you can help thanks
i went really far with my 3.1L, got ir bored to a 3.8 but the main problem is the transmission, everyone is just worried the trani won't be able to take any big horse power, it's at 380hp right now with no turbo, just motor, i have the turbo and a super chip but i am scared to use them.
I've never heard of anyone boring a 3.1 to a 3.8 before. Can you direct me to a website that has info on your car? I can't find any vids of it in your profile.
a 3.1 V6 is a 60-degree V-6 for space reasons. You can't bore/stroke it to more than a 3.2-3.3 because the cylinder liners are already thin. You're not making 380 out of that motor naturally aspired even with a big bore/cam, intake, fuel system, exhaust and other mods. Prove me wrong with dyno papers.
@Slipknotyk06 will do, the bore it a 3.38 which my any standards is rounded to a 3.4 cause it's close enough, with bare motor i was running 294whp after exhaust computer, cooling, and fuel modifications i am currently at 396whp 420something at the fly... I Love it when people tell me its impossible cause i did it.. maybe i just have special machining powers who knows. lol
@sweeper27 - I had a 3.1 in my Olds Ciera. I had a supercharger from the 2.8 sitting on a custom plenum, small pulley, running 15 pounds boost. I had a 100 shot nitrous. I had intake, ignition, computer, exhaust, valvetrain, and rotating assembly mods. The 3.1 was 140 horse from the factory, it takes close to 15 grand to make it run 400-horse. Mine ran 425 on the spray, and about 360 off.
Again, where is your dyno vid? Where are the papers? You also claimed to bore it to a 3.8, NOT 3.4!
hey i got a 92 Z24 convertible and im thinking about doing the very same swap just wondering what all was needed to be done, did you need the boniville wire harness and computer or were you able to make the z one work
That should be a 3800 series 1 with an M62 eaton s/c. came on olds 98, bonnevilles, rivieras etc.. 225hp stock. Good for 15.9 1/4 mile times in the other cars. Since this cav is lighter i would assume that he would hit 15 sec. 1/4 mile time. Too heavy of an engine though. That thing has to understeer like a bitch!
bet that cost a ton!

lmao you can't bore a 3.1 to a 3.8! the cyl walls would be paper thin! if it even HAD Cylinder walls anymore

well, we did it. this of course was after heat treating the block a few times, but we got it there. no issues with it yet. its been almost a year.
