  • He emphasizes that the safe injection sites enable heroin addicts at great cost to the user via a controlled government sanctioned injection site but ignores the fact that in the absense of such a site comes the endemic of "crack/heroin houses" that affect both the communities in which they establish themselves and the user. Personally I see the safe injection site as a much better alternative to the latter. Unfortunately advocates of prohibition obscure their rationality with reprehension.

  • cost effective vs traditional stance always looses in governments that have printing presses for their budgets

  • I wonder if Dr. Murray realizes that methadone withdrawal is far worse, and lasts far longer, than heroin withdrawal. Putting heroin addicts on methadone only guarentees that they will be on opiates for that much longer.

Ibogaine is the way to go if you want to get off of opiates for good. If you're not ready for that, then free needle exchange and free injection sites are by far the safest, most effective, most reasonable, and in spite of all that, fortunately, most cost-effective way to go

  • @The3rdPlateau I've heard great things about Ibogaine too, but then one of the scientists said one thing that rang very sadly true: The drug companies won't take the time to turn that into a pharma medicine for one reason: You don't have to take it for the rest of your life, and therefore the profits aren't worth the expense. They WANT you on something you need to take forever. Very very sad.

  • Illegally established Catholic gangs impose unlawful constructions, illegally continued in all courts and administrations, as house-divided-gang-farming policies, which are ALL actual violations of the commerce clauses, all applicable laws, all applicable class laws, and CBPC 17200-17220, see CBPC 17206, for city attorney liability in California, to prosecute class violations of Unfair Business Practices Law. Fatal undiscovered liabilities stem, from neglect, since 1/1/2005. 360.yahoo/bobgnote

  • Ok Murray, so maybe they should not be doing heroin. But they are off the streets. That means everyone is safer. The alternative is to have them all over the streets and stealing to get money to pay for the only thing on their minds.

  • People are still missing the point, this is about the government taking away your right to choose. Our civil rights are at stake here, along with our gun rights and many other rights we take for granite. It doesnt matter if its good or bad for you. It a matter of government control in a "free " society.

  • thats why I don't vote in national elections

  • DR.murrary...Its A leash no matter whos holding it be it the government or the drug dealer.

  • As sad as this is, LoquaciousONE wrote it makes them ashamed to be an american citizen. Oh!! I too am ashamed to be represented in the world by the corporation "United States Government", but by no means should we be ashames to be Americans. The real shame is that the People are not being heard. We have segmented and specialized so much that we do not stand united against NON-REPRESENTATIVE GOVERNMENT, perpetuating the problem. We need to be loud and respectful to win this.

    PEACE!!

  • Liberty and personal responsibility? Is that why you want to tell me what I'm allowed to consume? Idiots.

  • What a lial. The Netherlands has now the LOWEST number of heroin addicts in the world because the program works.

  • what he says at the end about heroin i agree with to a point, sadly he is very disinformed about much of what he is talking about.

  • I can't believe Dr. Murray mentioned methadone as a substitute for heroin when methadone has been proven to be more addictive and harder to recover from than heroin. These kind of people make me ashamed to call myself an American Citizen.

  • Hold it now Mr. Murray, you're not in the position to talk about governments holding a leash on their citizens. You talk like it's easy and affordable to get thousands of people off of Heroin....the most addictive drug out there...

  • Nice post thimoneus,

I know(Based on years of educating myself) if it was legalized and used in a controlled matter and in a professional setting, they will have more professional help with education of there illness and also can form multiple stations in need for quitting and support. It's a lot better than my son finding dirty needles in the bushes or seeing a man lieing motionless under a bridge.

  • Junkies are going to do heroin EVEN IF they don't have clean needles! If all they have to use are dirty needles, they will use dirty needles. With dirty needles, they spread disease. With clean needles, they do not. If cities will legalize heroin, the heroin addicts will do their heroin just like they are now, but they will stop screwing with citizens and tourists to support very expensive illegal habits. With legal heroin, they will destroy themselves without destroying others.

  • And this sick bastard Dr. Murry has the balls to call himself a doctor?......he sounds just exactly like what he is....a NWO parrot incapable of any compassion for any life whatsoever. A most vile and self serving puke.

Besides after doing heroin all day the only thing most junkies want to do is go find a place to sleep untill they can go get more in the morning. Which is more dangerous, a junkie in desperate need of a fix or one that just wants to sleep?

  • This Dr. Murry is a Nazi!! he should be charge with War Crimes and see what it looks like on the other side of the bars. Please don't save me, you are doing more harm than good.

  • holy fuck this stupid fat fuck is retarded

  • lol, rAmen to that, brother.

I really liked how passionate Doctor Ethan Nadelmann was though (the guy talking outside) - the more people we have like that, the sooner The War On Untaxed Drugs will be over.

  • David you are a fat headed dick, and a liar to boot!!

  • The republican guy in the suit starts by saying that the heroin users go out in the evenings and commit crimes. Then he says but they don't, because if they did they wouldn't get any heroin from the government. And he thinks that's a bad thing?

Legalization is about changing the current culture into a less violent and addictive one.

Regulated drug use during the day replaces unregulated night-time use that leads to overdoses and crime. I think that's a start.

  • I love how commenters are smart enough to realize that the war on drugs is a lost war and more lost and beauricratic then the vietnam war one day we will approach drug use with compassion for the user and will have more harm reduction programs i can only wish for it one day

  • Try this test: ANYTIME you have an argument against drugs, replace the word 'drugs' with alcohol. For example:

If we legalize drugs, everybody will use them and become an addict.

becomes: If we legalize alcohol, everybody will use it and become an addict.

Did that happen? Nope. Why would it be true if we legalize pot? The fact that alcohol is a hard drug doesn't help..

  • absolutly correct and great analogy

  • want to see a reduce in illegal drug consumption?, simply make them legal. Drug consumptions feed a criminal black market?, make them legal.

Just like with prostitution, most danger (specially for 3rd party's) that comes with illegal drugs is BECAUSE THEY ARE ILLEGAL. Otherwise its just something you do to yourself. Just like it is your choice to be a couch potato, eat garbage food and watch corny tv with out contributing much to society. If you dont like them, don't take them and let me be.

  • Amen!

  • Ban McDonalds and TAco Bell

  • Dude, you gotta leave McDonalds and Taco Bell. When I get the munchies and don't wanna cook, that's where I go!

  • OK then we don't want a black market in fast food

  • David Murray is such a damn liar!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Every fucking word that comes out of his mouth is nothing but hypocritical bullshit.

  • I love how he unwittingly damns himself at the end by saying "Do you want the government to have a leash on you". Well, telling me I, as I thinking human being, cannot decide to grow a plant in my back yard and smoke it seems like you're holding a HUGE leash on my free choice. We are not truly free.

  • I think it would be more of a SHORT/TIGHT leash

  • yes its a leash no matter whos holding it.

  • @snazzywiggles ok...he was talking about heroin, not marijuana

  • It is a shame the taxpayers are sustaining such monstrous tyranny. Stop it.

  • Only you can stop it!

  • I like how the word "sustain" is spat with such hatred. Would he rather see addicts dead?
