@Alien0KANTA rocket to russia/end of the cuntury, end of the century is the ramones best pop type of album and rocket to russia is the best from there early sound
I wanted to add there were according to her there were only 20-25 people there . The only promotion was the sign out in front of the bar and an ad I found in that weeks local paper . I found it to confirm their show hoping she was wrong . ThereI was probably just a handful if that , of fans in 100 sq miles that would have cared .
As a 19 yr old punk fan in 1978 I lived in Idaho Falls,ID then the 3rd biggest city w/15k people . This was a place with NO music scene.. period . I came home from work 1 night and one my buddys g/f is talking about the nite before she was at the Skyline?? (long time ago) and there was this horrible band there .It was our heroes . OMFG I almost died . Right time frame, and after all how many Idaho stops could there have been on the tour ? And I had missed it . Crap .
@cgn37vet HAHA! I can dig it, my Mom & her family was from Firth...in the '50's they thought the kids from Shelley were cool town kids & the Idaho Falls kids, well they were too cool to even talk too they were "BIG CITY" kids!!! I remember IF in the late 70's, cruising the loop at Tautphus Park was about it.
my dad sang this to me a as a lullaby to me and my brother when we were babies. and i know i will not be able to listen to this beautiful song when he's gone. but he's still alive and i hope he lives forever<3
I know you all realize there was a major row over the multi-colored t-shirts on the album cover. Despite the delightful sound of the recording, the making of this album occurred in extremely tense and uncomfortable circumstances for all involved.
I actually owned the L.P. Rocket to Russia. (and a bud owned the cassette.) Sad that U.S. 'mainstream' did not appreciate Ramones. (or as a Philipino friend said, The Ramones!)
They'da sold millions ore of this song had they titled it, "it aint Christmas if there aint no snow". Then we'd hear this classic every December ON THE RADIO instead of junk like the George Michael song which says nothing remote about Christmas. It's just in the title.
@crybabywithoutacause I hate all the regular versions on this album, the demo sounds so, very much better and RAW like the real ramones, but you know this is joey's influence so injoy the track
Interesting to me how some of the band loathed this album (obviously the recording of it was a freakish nightmare) but the music is great in my opinion. I think it stands up with anything they did.
When my friend danny died i did a tribute for him like concert thing and i was singing the line danny says weve got to go and i just started crying on stage
You can really hear the Beach Boys influences here. The Ramones were such a dynamic band. They had so many different sounds for the limited chord work they did.
There are so so many bands that owe everything to The Ramones.
This is the best song off "End Of The Century" by a mile. Then again, you may want to check out the cover versions of this song by The Foo Fighters and Tom Waits.
@poughkeepsiejohn1 Agreed, they're both great, but after hearing this original version, especially with the Spector "wall of sound" production (and being accustomed it for 30 years), I don't think they measure up.
Keep in mind though, the End of the Century album was different. At Phil Spector's direction, the music here was much more complicated than their usual fare, but even still they pulled it off big time!
Probably the best song on the album, besides rock n roll radio of course. This song is just pure brilliance. You can really hear Joey's influence the song gives me chills every time I hear the opening beat. RIP Joey, Dee Dee, and Johnny, you guys are missed. The Ramones are missed, we need the Ramones to save music once again!
@MatthewNabokovfan88 You know what? This more then the best song on the album, in my opinion is one of the best rock n roll songs ever written, its just perfect.
Baby Oho-ho-ho, we got nowhere to go And it may sound funny, but it's true Hangin' out in 100 B Watching Get Smart on TV Thinkin' about You and me and you and me Hangin' out in L.A. And there's nowhere to go It ain't Christmas if there ain't no snow Listening to Sheena on the radio Oh-ho oh-ho
