  • will be long time before I can afford a ssd (I may just get a 30gb and put os on it, but that's awhile). enjoyed the vid thanks.

  • nice vid. Cable management? I hate seeing a rig with way more expensive parts than I have, but this was cool and I liked how you clocked the bootup time.

but i love the components to my rig and can't wait to build it! I encounter the "where" question frequently where install monitor wallmount where install other things etc.

what program was used to measure the 5.9 and 7.5

you should have set to auto-logon (as that's a confounding variable) but this was a great vid. enjoyed seeing that.

  • r u using AHCI or IDE mode ? AHCI will unleash your beast....IDE will not

  • fail, apple wallpaper on a pc HAhhahHAHA

  • @sexking83 The irony of it ;)

  • @davomrmac lawl imma prolly buy this product because of u... im also thinking of intel ssd is it worth it?

  • @sexking83 Totally.

  • my kingston ssd only gets 6.9 in the windows experience score. why is yours so much higher?

  • @liam0006 The Crucial has quoted much higher read & write rates.

  • Just curious, do you still have your two samsungs in raid? And what do you use them for? Like are all your programs as well as the OS loaded on the SSD and then you use the hard drives for your other files?

  • @AustinAutry No longer have the PC. However, I used them for video capture only.

  • Did the companys give you this stuff for free so that they would be advertised or did you pay for all of it.

  • @Firask2010 Companies never get advertised, the products are reviewed on their own merits. Most of the parts were loaned to me, then returned. Some were purchased from scan[.]co[.]uk

  • A brilliant drive, though a bit too expensive for my paycheck. I am choosing the

Corsair SSD Force Series 2,5" 80GB SATA2, 285MB/275MB/s read/write. Hoping it would suit my needs :)

    thx for the review

  • wow very quick compared to my pc wich currentaly tkes 3min to get to windows login

  • @ironsoilder123 This certainly is super quick. Thanks for your comment.

  • @davomrmac it's ok cheack teh comment to app vid

  • I don't even care about boot up times, I'm not booting up my computer 50 times a day, I would like to see a demonstration of what it's like opening up 27 programs at once, and no, not Notepad. lol

  • @1981z28camaro :) I may do an update video in the future.

  • @davomrmac cool, I'd like to see that :-) I was thinking of getting the OCZ RevoDrive, what are your thoughts?

  • @1981z28camaro Never used that one, but the specs look pretty good.

  • @davomrmac cool, would you say it would be a better investment?

  • @1981z28camaro Well, my money would go on the Crucial one, but either will perform well.

  • @davomrmac so the Crucial SSD is pretty snappy hey? could you make a video opening up a bunch of different programs individually, and then in the same video showing what it's like opening up a bunch at once?

    would be much appreciated. :-)

I will reply to you tomorrow, going to bed now.

  • @1981z28camaro The Crucial SSD has awesome performance, reportedly best in its class.

  • @davomrmac I saw a video showing a test of the Crucial C300, and while it did open windows fairly fast, I did notice that it just didn't seem as fast as some other tests I saw of other SSD's, even when not raided.

  • I have the same mobo as you Dave, and I'm wondering about the Marvell 6gb/s controller, as some people have had some problems with the Crucial C300 not getting the advertised 355mb/s reads, just want to make sure it worked for you. I heard from some people that one has to go into BIOS and change the storage setting and drive setting to AHCI from IDE in order to get maximum performance. Just curious to see if you had to do anything special with this drive? Also, which 2.5-3.5 adapter was used?

  • @peaceandmetal88 Yes, you do have to change settings in the BIOS to enable the 6GB/s. I used a generic cheap adapter, it came with a case that a friend purchased.

  • Is there any reason you went for a 2.5" drive as apposed to a 3.5"?

  • SSDs are all well and good but they are way too expensive. It makes me wonder why they haven't just made 3.5" SSDs aswell, it would make them cheaper than 2.5" SSDs and you wouldn't have to have all the hassle of getting adapters to get it to work, and you could even start expanding the storage to 1024GB, 2048GB and so on, making it close to standard HDDs.

  • nice video dave i learn alot on your video

  • @thrixcarl Thanks for your comment.

  • Great review and install instruction Dave. Can the drive be installed in a Mac Pro? Is the reboot time as fast?

  • @ald1972 It can be installed in a Mac Pro. In fact, as I type this response I am uploading a video showing this being installed in a MacBook.

  • Great review Dave, super fast drive but you reboot timing test is not really like for like, obviously you did not start with a clean install of window 7 before you installed the Crucial drive. All good though :)

  • @NickRno77 It was a clean install plus one suite of apps, so very near.

  • What are you using this computer for? Great Video, very clear and informative.;D

  • @GreatUnboxer Video editing.

  • The WEI doesnt let a regular hard drive get above a 5.9 even if it is fast enough to get a better score. 6.0 and above are reserved for ssd's for some reason.

  • lol remember i was the one that asked u why no ssd? this was the one i was hoping u would use. Awesome, my new pc has the same components as well. But my ssd is the 128 gb.

  • Man, I'd do anything to get one of these. 256GB is perfect. Price is a bit high.

  • Oh that explains it then. Thanks for your help

  • Well when u watch a movie in landscape wen the picture is in full screen mode you loose some of the picture but wen u double tap to the smaller pic more of the movie is displayed. So wen it's in full screen it zooms in so much you don't see the whole picture?

  • @adamsbil1 This is due to the iPad resolution, nothing can be done about it. Most HD movies on YouTube (including mine) are 1280x720. The iPad res is 1024x768, so when you watch at 720 high you lose 256 pixels (128 each side).

  • thats that a bigun too

  • You fail on the last screw lol

  • you could have gotten the adapter from cooler master for your ssd

  • @delonh92 Yes, I noticed they do them, so do Akasa.

  • Cool video as always. Got a question regarding the iPad and watching videos. Is there any way I can change the screen size option when watching videos movies etc cos wen u watch a film you see the whole picture in the small screen size but when u watch it in full screen you loose some of the picture if that makes sense is there anyway it can be changed?

  • @adamsbil1 Hmmmm, not sure, do you mean when you rotate the iPad you lose picture to the left and right, like cropped. Try tapping the screen and expand it or contract it to fit.

  • lmao, i was watching this in full screen HD, when you did the restart and you had to put the windows password in i started typing mine in *face palm* .... great vid :)

  • I Want It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • maybe a stupid question but,

is this kind of drives also available on 3.5inch and a little more than 256GB?

  • @MrPimutje You can get 3.5-inch SATA drives, but they are very expensive.

  • @davomrmac hmm do you know why bechause normally the 2.5inch models are much much more expensive :o maybe i missed somethin here if so just say so and ill watch your video again ;)

  • @MrPimutje Maybe it is because they are not as popular, thus the demand is lower.

  • @davomrmac then a logical question after your answer :P :

    - why isnt it that popular i mean it is much much faster and i have read on a forum that it is alot more shake resistant. if they made it cheaper i guess that the marketshare would explode with the geek(anoid)s like me :P

    Regards,

    Pim

  • @MrPimutje :) I think because when SSD was first developed it was for laptop use and saving battery life. Then they became more useable as capacity increased and started to find their way into desktops.

  • wow thats cool your very talented building that computer i would be so frustrated doing it but was it worth building it as i though your a mac man

  • @arrow1archer Thanks.

  • @davomrmac No Problem so what are you upgrading next on this

  • @arrow1archer I have some fan filters to install, then hopefully a CPU cooler.

  • you shouldnt consider the time of you typing in your password part of the boot up time. you should have stopped the timer when the user page appeared

  • That was a really good performance upgrade. I might look into purchasing one. Thank for actually showing the times, it really showed the difference.

  • I really hope SSDs come down in price eventually.

  • thnx for the review!!!!

  • Great vid, very detailed.

    - TechManiaKid

  • @TechManiaKid Thank you.

  • @davomrmac No problem, Looking forward to more vids.

  • Hey Dave, great video. When are you doing the follow-up videos? I.e. reviews etc? I love how you're on a PC and have the Apple logo as your desktop picture haha. Something i've only just noticed, why would you ever need 5 optical drives? Also, In the words of Emeek, a core i7 custom build does not a mac pro maketh :P

  • @PepitoIngles Great comment. I never will use more than 2 optical drives ever.

  • i relly like to watch PC Build Series

  • @Kingdelfrong Thanks.

  • Great Video once again! I checked out the website too! Its very nice :D

  • @everythingtech1020 Cheers.
