I am a 60 year old Canadian. This video should be required for every Canadian citizen. I will never know what you went through, My father served 44 months in the RCAF in WWII. I will never know what he went through. When I had finished this video I was in tears. I am so proud of my country and so proud of all who serve it in the armed forces. You are the best in the world. @roth00140 Hey Roth, you are referring to the 1st Battalion Royal New Brunswick Regiment. 1RNBR is a Reserve Infantry Regiment so you won't ever get "sent" anywhere. They don't have any "Recon Squids", Combat Octopuses or any other wildlife for that matter. In Canada we don't say Recon we say Recce and the Canadian Army (Regular or Reserve) does not hire people who can't spell. Hit the books or you won't be joining anything but the unemployment lineup. @ImonYTehh The best advice I can give you is to get the best possible marks in High School - marks that a University would accept. Then talk to a Recruiter (in the Yellow Pages) about becoming an Officer. Officers in the Army have more responsibility but get better pay and pensions than Non Commissioned Members. If you are like me and not a great High School Student then get the best possible marks you can.
@OABW4RR10R I do well in school, but I'll continue pushing myself. I can't see myself doing anything other than giving what I can back to Canada. Thanks for the advice.
@ImonYTehh Other than studying you'll need to run 5km in 25 minutes or less, do 25 full pushups, 25 situps and at least 5 chin ups - just to do Boot Camp. For normal PT we used to run 5 or 10km and then play soccer or floor hockey. 50 pushups and situps are normal. 16km rucksack marches with full fighting order and 25kg pack are also regular PT. Get yourself in serious shape.
You have years to prepare. Talk to your Gym Teacher at school about training.

@ImonYTehh There were long hard days and then there were good days. I have so many friends that are now brothers for life that I can't even count them... over 400 on Facebook alone. Every single one of them would drop everything in a second to help me if I needed it and I would for them too. Now that most of us are retired we miss hanging out

@paintballgunner77 Just to be a Private you need Grade 12 or equivalent and you need to pass the Entrance Evaluations & exams. If you want to go Officer you need really good marks that a University will accept or already have a University degree.
The Canadian Army isn't a bunch of dumb brainwashed killer zombies like University Professors teach. There are lots of NCO's that have Degrees too.
@paintballgunner77 Yes and depending on the College Course and the Trade you want to join as the Army may even pay your Tuition for you. As an example if you wanted to take an Electronics Engineer Course the Army would pay your Tuition and recruit you as an Army Communications and Information Systems Technician (ACISS Tech). I believe the only requirement is that you serve a minimum of 7 years
Call your local Recruiter. The Army has tons of jobs that have NOTHING to do with shooting or killing

However, countries get into the right wars, countries get into the wrong wars, and when they get into the wrong wars, I think it actually heightens the honor of the soldiers on the battlefield that they do what they're told even if they disagree...unless what they're asked to do is actually dishonorable.

Soldiers see and hear more things about why we fight then civilians do. We have security clearances. I will never know what he went through. When I had finished this video I was in tears. I am so proud of my country and so proud of all who serve it in the armed forces. You are the best in the world. @roth00140 Hey Roth, you are referring to the 1st Battalion Royal New Brunswick Regiment. 1RNBR is a Reserve Infantry Regiment so you won't ever get "sent" anywhere. They don't have any "Recon Squids", Combat Octopuses or any other wildlife for that matter. In Canada we don't say Recon we say Recce and the Canadian Army (Regular or Reserve) does not hire people who can't spell. Hit the books or you won't be joining anything but the unemployment lineup. @ImonYTehh The best advice I can give you is to get the best possible marks in High School - marks that a University would accept. Then talk to a Recruiter (in the Yellow Pages) about becoming an Officer. Officers in the Army have more responsibility but get better pay and pensions than Non Commissioned Members. If you are like me and not a great High School Student then get the best possible marks you can.
The Army doesn't hire slackers or quitters.

@ImonYTehh Other than studying you'll need to run 5km in 25 minutes or less, do 25 full pushups, 25 situps and at least 5 chin ups - just to do Boot Camp. For normal PT we used to run 5 or 10km and then play soccer or floor hockey. 50 pushups and situps are normal. 16km rucksack marches with full fighting order and 25kg pack are also regular PT. Get yourself in serious shape.
You have years to prepare. Talk to your Gym Teacher at school about training.

Every single one of them would drop everything in a second to help me if I needed it and I would for them too. Now that most of us are retired we miss hanging out
During my 26 years I was shot at, held hostage, blown up, I saved a little girl hit by a car and you know what - I'd do it all again in a heart beat

@paintballgunner77 Just to be a Private you need Grade 12 or equivalent and you need to pass the Entrance Evaluations & exams. If you want to go Officer you need really good marks that a University will accept or already have a University degree.
The Canadian Army isn't a bunch of dumb brainwashed killer zombies like University Professors teach. There are lots of NCO's that have Degrees too.

@paintballgunner77 Yes and depending on the College Course and the Trade you want to join as the Army may even pay your Tuition for you. As an example if you wanted to take an Electronics Engineer Course the Army would pay your Tuition and recruit you as an Army Communications and Information Systems Technician (ACISS Tech). I believe the only requirement is that you serve a minimum of 7 years
Call your local Recruiter. The Army has tons of jobs that have NOTHING to do with shooting or killing

I can tell you as a former Canadian soldier who was deployed to Afghanistan in a combat role, that few of my buddies disapproved of the war. Soldiers see and hear more things about why we fight then civilians do. We have security clearances. It may not be a fun or popular war and few soldiers are happy about fighting it, but we all know how very necessary it is we fight it and win. Canada is under direct threat, we mustn’t cower away.

@93iasonas93 I speak simply what i believe is true. without soldiers evil men still exist. they simply have no organization known as an army. just as religion brings men together, like minded people will come together regardless of whether there is an official flag waving above them or not. And they will come to your door and tell you what they think you should do. Soldiers take this burden onto their shoulders and externalizes this problem. Instead of neighbours fighting one another

@93iasonas93 and slaughtering their children, soldiers push that problem to the border where an organized military wages war where as best they can non combatants are removed. Without soldiers and armies it would simply be the same as the the days of old when bandits would roam from town to town pillaging and raping.

War is mankind's' most terrible invention. Unfortunately it is also sometimes necessary. You can no more disband your country's Army than you can disband all Police Forces.
Man is inherently a killer monkey and needs things like Police Officers and Soldiers to keep the checks and balances of a modern "civilized" world in place. To do otherwise is to invite invasion &/or lawlessness.
