  • What is the model of your Hangglider?

  • @FloatingBreeze 1987 Wills Wing US Sport 167

  • it would be nice to have a hang glider where you sit down like an ultra light. Im not keen on the position of lying forward and being stuffed into a harness

  • @210482fmj You can get a prone harness or check out paragliding.

  • where can you learn hang gliding?

  • what is your descent rate in feet per minute on a hang glider at best glider

  • @210482fmj Around 600fpm best glide (8:1) and 200fpm min sink.... I think. it's been a long time since I've looked at those numbers. It's a 1987 Wills Wing 155 Sport American if you want to do some research. The newer Sport 2 performs much better.

  • @soapbox94 Where did you get hang III instruction for 440 USD?

  • @39cbell OR Coast. 1st lesson in 1990- $100. 2 lessons in 1995 $125/day. That instructor moved away after 2 lessons. He set me up with a great deal on a HG and told me to practice 100 launch/landings on the dune. At 88 flights another instructor watched me and said I was ready. He charged $20/day if you had your own gear. He took me up for a high alt. flight, gave me some tests, and gave me my H1&H2. The next summer I paid for my H3 test with a friend that was certified to grant licenses.

  • @39cbell The 5yrs '90-95, I read 5 books on it, watched several instructional videos, studied aerodynamics, and went to several HG events. By 1995 I was fully prepared. My experience is not normal. It should take 10-15 days of training, and it's probably $175-200/day now. Flying a HG is actually pretty easy. The hard part is knowing when to launch and when/how to land. "It's better to be on the ground wishing you were flying instead of being in the sky wishing you were on the ground."

  • @soapbox94 Thanks soap box. That is great to hear. I've always been really quick to pick up things and lord knows I'll be reading my butt off long before I go to take my lessons. Hopefully it won't take long if I prepare. You really scored a deal on the 20$ a day though. I highly doubt I will be able to find that.

  • Imagine you're walking on that beach and suddenly notice these footsteps coming out of nowhere :-)

  • @WICKEDDelta lol

  • i want to go hang gliding , anyone know what is the best country or place to go hang gliding?

  • Comment removed

  • I don't think you can find a hanggliding video that make's you want to try the sport more than this one. Great job with combining the video with the music. Nice..

  • Dude Sweet!

  • nice flying

  • I hang glide, too, and my favorite, yet the scariest moment was when there was a headwind and I flipped twice midair.

  • How difficult is it to recover from a stall?

That's probably my only real fear of hang-gliding or flying in general, that and landing.

  • @Waxer3929 the glider recovers from stall without input. just make sure you have enough altitude.

when you push out on the bar hard, this you can feel the glider begin to mush. the glider becomes less responsive to roll inputs. the wing of a beginner glider is designed to stall out in sections. the feeling of wind at your face stops. a stall is a flow separation over a flexible wing there's more than enough warning.

  • Is it easy to do with lessons? or is hang gliding one of those things that takes years to master. I think it looks amazing....like flying. how experienced do you have to be?

  • one of my favorite hg videos - hope to get to oceanside one day - i'll keep flying morningside

  • i would love to hang glide!

  • and I thought Oceanside in Oregon looked cool from the ground... awesome video man.

  • it's funny how at times it really really looks like green screen

  • @spencechan I think people just like to yell "FAKE" on youtube for fun. It does look like green screen, but if you think about it; you'd have to fly a hang glider to capture the background footage anyway.

  • @soapbox94 I know it's not fake, I'm just saying it's funny how it looks fake

  • @soapbox94 i agree but i cant tell the diffrentce....i like it anyway :3

  • @spencechan I just did this and when I got my pics back it looked fake! I assure you it isn't!

  • If I had some spare money, I'd love to get a hang glider. The site you were at was amazing. :)

Being in Tennessee, there aren't as nice of sites to see. >_< Lol

  • Id love to do this but im not sure i got the bottle lol

  • I want to hang glide  It seems Soo unreal... & looks amazing now hang gliding compared to roller-coaster which is scarier?

  • That looks so fun. I can barely imagine what it must feel like to fly like that, its like the closest thing to naturally flying. I hope I can do it some day.

  • I am currently hang 0 (lol) I cant wait to be you man!

    Beautiful video, I love it.

  • In my case: Glider $1200 (used), Harness $400 (new), Chute $300 (new), Vario $100 (used), Instruction $440 to Hang III. USD 1995. You can easily spend waaaaay more. Way cheaper and safer than motorcycle racing!

  • @soapbox94 Hey, what do you think is more fun? Skydiving or hang gliding? Hard to compare but what would you rather do?

  • @LeanderRandom Depends. It's like surfing vs. cliff diving. If I was looking for a one-day thrill? sky diving. Looking for a hobby? Hang Gliding.

  • @soapbox94 hmm. good point. I'm doing an AFF course soon. When i was indoor skydiving i catched the bug bad :) maybe i'll try hang gliding once. Looks like a lot of fun ;)

  • Such a fitting song. Jebas, how much would something like this cost?

  • That. Is. AWESOME.

  • Man wats the name of this song. I'm tired of listening to this vid on YouTube and then losing service when I go hang gliding. Please tell me someone I love this song.

  • @Rick1885 "Fly Away" Lenny Kravitz 1998 album: 5

  • Whats is safer hang gliding, paragliding or powered paragliding ?

  • @coopmuch56 Don't know really. I doubt there's enough data for good stats. It's only as dangerous as you want it to be. As far as deaths per participants, it's safer than Soccer.

  • @coopmuch56 I asked my grandfather the same queston, he's done both. He says hang gliding is funner, cheaper, and safer.

  • I wish I had a job so I can afford expensive habits like this. A tandem set me back 200 for a little under 30 minutes. Looks more exciting doing it in the NW than my state of Florida

  • not sure why this video has so many views nothing special...people must watch it just because of how many people have watched it...huh?

  • @humboldtwings I guess I just put the right search words in years ago. When you search HG, it comes up first page. I think it's a beautiful flying site, maybe people like that?

  • @humboldtwings I watched the video because I wanted to get an idea of what hang gliding was like because I'm thinking of going, I'm sure that's why a lot of people watched it, not just because of the views.

  • Actually, hang gliding isn't done "without a motor". This type of launch requires getting to the top of the ridge using a truck. So hang gliders are indirectly powered by gasoline. Interestingly though, the more skill you have, the longer you can stay up, and the amount of gasoline used for the time in the air decreases. More skill = less gas.

  • I just realized one of my comments was flagged as spam. I did not mean for my comment to post twice. I assure you I am not spam lol . This is still my favorite video on youtube. Unfortunately I did not get to hang glide while I was in Oregon. but I am not giving up on my dream. I WILL fly one day :)

  • @phoenixfyre71 Don't give up. It's not as impossible as it might seem. Wherever you are, there's flying to be done. People are finding that the most unlikely places to fly are good ones. If you ever see a large bird circling in the air, there's a thermal, and there's flying to be done. BTW, I didn't remove your (double) post.

  • Ok, so as of now I know almost nothing about hang gliding. But I want to. Seriously. I want to now. I want to fly around and laugh at people who aren't flying around. Maybe lasso a falcon and keep it as a pet while I'm up there, race it or something. Teach it hyperbeam and beat the Elite Four. Then I'll show Gary who's boss once and for all. Ok, got a little sidetracked there... but for real, what's the first step to getting into hang gliding? Awesome video by the way :D

  • @RichardBehiel I went to a hang gliding meet and watched and asked tons of questions. Bought some books, took some lessons, bought some gear, and Voila! 88 flights on the bunny hill and got my Hang 2 all in one summer. Take lessons first, then buy gear. The next usual question is: How much does it cost? A: around $100/day for lessons, and gear can be had for $500 to $15,000. All depends on how much you want to spend and what performance you want. The glider in this video was $1200 used.

  • @soapbox94 Thanks for the quick and detailed reply! Oh and also is there an age limit (I'm 16)? I've been saving up $1000 or so for skydive training this summer so I don't have to jump tandem but I think I'll look into this instead.

  • MY TURN!!!

  • you have the most awsome video ive ever seen on youtube you are star

  • looks like soo much FUN!!! I wanna be thies guy!!!

  • that's the coolest thing you could do without a motor I believe. You inspired me.

  • beautiful

  • AWESOME SONG TO AN AWESOME VIDEO!!!

  • AWESOME....SIMPLY AWESOME!!!

  • That town is beautiful. Awesome footage!

  • i always wondered, how do you control that and do you feel like you might crash at any second?

  • I WANT TO GET AWAY I WANT TO FLY AWAY!!!!

  • when hang gliding, is it possible to do a maneuver that you can't recover from assuming that altitude is not a problem? I'm just wondering about the dangers of hang gliding because I'm 18 years old and right now the idea of soaring like an eagle above the earth seems like the coolest thing in the world. Depending on the risk factors (and money) this could be something I could seriously get into.

  • i much does hang gliding cost

  • damn ... i wanna do this ... :P

  • orlly the best adrenaline rush!!

  • could you theoretically attach a motor and propeller (with proper balancing, etc) and extend flight? Or even fly for as long as the motor would last?

  • wow thanks for the vid regards kev uk

  • AWESOME

  • How hard would it be to learn hang gliding if I already have my glider pilot's license? I understand that controlling the glider would be a whole new thing, but I imagine many of the concepts would be the same, like finding thermals, and understanding how the glider manoeuvres.

  • that first view is breathtaking

  • read second after below: so i got my second double surface glider. was like starting agin i took a whole winter to get tuned into it. then started trying baby wing overs. finally 2 and a half years later i watched again and thought i can do that.

wow what a ride, never give up your dream

  • Very cool story, thanks for sharing. There's lots of people that learn to fly by aero towing, I've actually never done it, but I'm planning on it this spring. My HG buddies bought a dragonfly to tow, so I have to get certified now. Ye-Haw! In our local area we call a wingover a "Wang" since it's not technically a wingover, I don't know if that's a universal term, but I know what you're talking about. Now you have to loop it! Good luck and I wish you good air.

  • @FCbisleybob Very well said. That's what all of us have to do if we want to accomplish the dreams that we have for ourselves => "Never Give Up On the Dream!"

  • i remember watching this video and thinking wow i want to do that. so i got some lessons, they were nothing like this so i watched again and thought how long till i can do that. i qualidied (aerotow) and watched again. i want soar on hills. i watched again. i took a hill course and thought now i can soar but i want to soar over houses and trees. i flew many sites over the next year and a half and built up my hours and watched again. i thought but i want to do wing overs.

  • so i got my second double surface glider. was like starting agin i took a whole winter to get tuned into it. then started trying baby wing overs. finally 2 and a half years later i watched again and thought i can do that.

wow what a ride, never give up your dream

  • Thanks for taking this video, was quite a "lift" for my spirits! Felt as if I was there riding along!

  • Man when I'm out of college I'm gonna learn to hanglide!

  • Crazy dude.....that was excellent..enjoyed ur video very much...:):):)

  • @soapbox94 what name is this glider whats the name of the hang glider ur flying?

  • 1987 Wills Wing 167 Sport US

  • hey i am intrested in this flights and i wonder what is the frame made of cuase i know they need to be light is it hard plastic tubes?

  • @xXunit51Xx its aircraft grade aluminium mate

  • Kick ass video ! Thanks for making the effort.

  • That was pretty awesome!

  • There's two kinds of people that want to hang glide:

    1. "I've always wanted to do that."

    2. "Where do I sign up?"

  • @soapbox94 There's another kind. "I've never really yearned to go flying but now I'm into Photography and want to do some arial shots and helicopter rides are too expensive" .

  • @soapbox94 I'm no.2 :)

  • 1. Do you need to be a pilot to fly one?

    2. Where can I learn hang gliding or buy a hang glider?

    3. Is Oregon the only place we could fly the glider in the US?

Damn...It always is my dream to fly one ='(

  • @Topwish

    1. yes, just like you need to be a driver to drive a car.

    2. a.HG school. b. Classifieds, Craigslist, Ebay, Wills Wing, Moyes, etc.

    3. No. There's flying in every State of the US and every contry of the World.

Try this: Google "Hang Gliding School"

and yes, this is a frank but smarmy answer to your questions. :)

  • I wanna buy a batman hang glider and dress like a badman, lol

  • i so wana try this how much does the kite and kit cost?

  • This is my favorite video on youtube. I have watched it so many times. Im moving to Oregon this week. I hope to learn to hang glide. Do you do tandem for those wanting to try it to see if they want to invest in lessons?

  • what does the glider do if you exceed the vme i know all are diffrent, seriously wanting to get into this use to dream of flying when i was a little tyk

  • @wind2jammer I think it's VNE? Velocity Never to Exceed. I think mine is 55 mph or knots? The glider just vibrates, shakes, and doesn't perform well. The anti-dive wires make 55+ pretty hard maintain anyway. Stall is about 18, Min sink 20, Max L/D 25.

  • dude thats amazing :D

  • That was the coolest thing I've seen on youtube in a long, long time

  • duuude thats bad ass!

  • Green screen lol you people are retarded the camera is fixed still you numptys.

  • @CraigRidley1 i would lol so hard at the person who said that if i knew who they were xD

  • looks like soo much fun

  • this makes me want to spit and see how far it goes

  • amazing, id love to learn to hang glide...not old enough though : /

  • cool man, 4 minute flight. do you head back up and go again? how do u get back up?

  • @TellinTheTruth Actually it was just under an hour long flight. I've flown for 8+ hrs at this site on a good day. This day people were flying for 3-4hrs. My tape was only 60min. so I had to go and burn altitude to make sure I got the landing on film. I edited it down to fit the song; plus it gets pretty boring watching someone go back and forth, back and forth.

"how do you get back up?" You fold up the glider and put it on a truck and drive back to the top.

  • don't lie when you where gliding along the shore the only thing going through your head was "boy i wish i could run this fast" :D amazing vid

  • is it exhausting, maneuvering the heavy hang glider around with our own weight? im so impatient to fly that thing :(

  • @squallpi Hardly. Coastal flying is as calm and easy as pushing the handlebars on a bicycle.

  • The 12 people that disliked this must be red neck bible bangers that think man should not fly. This video is so f'n awesome !. great choice of music

  • You can tell that this guy probably has the coolest, most awesome little brother.

  • @withoutakikstand Obviously. And T, I'll take you flying anytime.

  • @soapbox94 I thought you sold it?

  • great stuff.... From Carson City Mt Rose area (Reno)

  • GREEN SCREEN! FAKE!

  • Great video, and I agree with VEMEX1000 - you couldn't have picked a better soundtrack!

  • Why were there dislikes on this video?

Truly amazing. I wish I could take part in such an amazing experience. I hope to hang glide one day.

  • that's just a guy in front of a green screen...

  • It amazes me that you don't have to do a running landing with hang gliding, am searching for a place where I can get lots of lessons, this just looks amazing, too bad I don't live in the U.S. I barely ever see hang gliders in Europe.

  • I'm currently saving up for this crazy sport/hobby!! hopefully next summer I will be taking some lessons!! SO excited!

  • This video is amazing ! this makes me want to start hand gliding even more. The most inspiring video on youtube. Anyone know any good clubs/places in England where you can hand glide with views as stunning as this ?

  • whats the song and this is just amazing

  • Beautifull man :)

  • I'm thinking that was a long walk back.

  • I'm curious can you use these only in certain area ex: Windy areas?

Can someone please reply thank you.

  • hey im thinking about buying a glider and suggestions? Also what do i need other than the glider i know a harness but is there anything else that doesn't come with the glider that i should know about?

  • Lessons, helmet, Lessons, variometer, Lessons, altimeter, Lessons, reserve chute. By all means take some lessons before you buy one. You'll probably find a much better deal once you're into the sport and your local club.

  • @soapbox94 yeah i already have taken a lot of lessons... but sadly no lessons on buying one : /

  • @Devon1251903 Don't forget to write a will before you start

  • amazing video perfect track

  • That was amazing.

  • how do you account for advery roll with out rudder?

  • My favorite part starts from 2:45 to 3:47

  • finally i ot the name,,,,,i wanted to know what this sport was called lol...finally i got the name

  • This video made me laugh for some reason. It's so extraordinary that someone can do this. I want to do this one day!

  • how come ive never seen a hang glider in my life???!?!?!??!?! WHY ARNT PPL DOING THIS!!!!

  • holy shit, he actually survived :O

  • This is amazing, I hope to experience this one day

  • Can i fly over the sea?

  • @JohnKeotes You can only fly over the sea for some minutes, because you will be slowly losing altitude. In order to fly for a long time you need to catch rising currents of air, which you will find at cliffs and slopes (depending on the wind) and some more places.

  • please watch youtube.com/watch?v=vqTyaZnpUNc and tell me if it is broken or okay

  • You can run but you can't glide!

  • ive been dreaming about doing this since is was 7!!!

  • that is soooo beautiful. I cant wait to do this.

  • I'm doing this tomorrow I'm 13 and I'm scared I'm gonna crash or something is there anything to be afraid of?

  • I can't even see the guy and he seems sexy lol

  • awesome lol

  • that was awesome!!

  • you do not know how BAD i wanna do that

  • whats the name of the song

  • thats exactly what im gonna do next summer

  • that was fuckin cool

  • EPIC.

I want to do this so badly.

I had a dream last night I was soaring 3,000 feet in the air over gorgeous mountain tops and beautiful plains. It was majestic.

  • thanks mate :)

  • thats pretty amazing...i wanna try hang gliding

  • what glider you flying there mate? couldnt of picked a better music track to go with that video, keep em coming plz.

  • @VEMEX1000 Wills Wing - 167 Sport (American)

  • Nice flight. Google Oregon Hang gliding to find an instructor in Oregon.

  • It feels like i'm watching Avatar !

  • the video is awesome and you are awesome and I love hang gliding O_O WOW I wish I could do it ..

  • I've gone 174mph on a motocycle, been skydiving a couple times... I want this to be next!!!

  • @Opethfan79 Thanks for the advice & tips. I'l surely look into it :) This looks like a great inner peace defining experience!

  • Holy crap, how does doing that feel? I wish there was a way to do this safely. This seems amazing and next time I have to move I want to live in a city where this is possible. I'd trade my sins for that experience

  • @theartofbone I have just started taking lessons and I don't think it is much more dangerous than many sports. The key is to have good teachers and go at your own pace. If you want to find out where to learn just go to the USHPA web site.

  • it looks terrifying if your scared of hights like i am but really fun =P

  • I just took my first lession. I can not wait for my first flight that lasts a few min. I am lucky enough to live just 45 min away from a good place to learn in the north east. So far I love it at Morningside.

  • I LOVE THIS!. I have to buy some time that stuf:D

  • This is heart stopping

    Omg!!!!!!!!!!!

  • After watching this vidoe this is ALL I want to do with my life... looks awesome
