This song in deed was written for Sarah Brightman, the whole opera was written for her voice by her then husband Andrew Lloyd Webber. Sarah is a Soprano and Katherine is a Mezzo-soprano two very different voices both equally fantastic.

1:20 She looks dead. I *think* she's going for serene and comforting, but it's *not* a comforting song. The Phantom is not telling a child not to be afraid of the dark. He's pleading, imploring Christine to love him back and stay with him forever. He's in love, desperately trying to be requited, but he's isolated and mad, and it's coming out VERY CREEPY. Yes, *he's* going for comforting, but at all the wrong moments. He's too intense. I don't feel that tension. Great voice, so-so actress.

Since this is a tradionally male song, it's actually not a bad idea for a mezzo soprano to sing it. Katherine Jenkins makes it sound more natural than Brightman.

Personally...I like her voice. It's powerful, it has meaning, it has a good range, and honestly, it's beautiful! What a gorgeous woman, with a gorgeous voice to match! The breathing technique worried me, you can damage your voice by breathing in large gasps like that, and then belting. But, otherwise, it was very pleasant listening to her, her vibrato is very nice also!
May you all please explain why she is so fantastic. I can´t hear it. My throat hurts when I hear her. I feel sorry for her. I´m not comfortable and I believe the audience should be comfortable with the singer. Don´t you?
She should take a break for a year or two and fix her voice with a good teacher because her tone is beautiful but she will ruin her voice within five years if she continue to sing like this...

She's either very nervous or needs a lot of work on everything except her looks. People get excited over a mezzo who looks good! In her music videos and recordings she sounds great, but we know what production can do to boost a performer. Most of her live performances show exceptional weakness in many facets of her mid and upper registers. But if musically uneducated, tone deaf public like her. Its their money!!! Seriously i think nerves are her major problem which is shown in her breathing.
Katherine is like a modern day Mario Lanza (albeit female). Classically trained, beautiful voice, pleasing on the eye (VERY in her case), but will never be a fully fledged opera singer. Nothing wrong with that though, love her and I love Lanza

I think she sings beautifully. She doesn't have to prove that she is a good singer as the fact that she has sold over 4 million records and there are nearly 1.5 million hits on here says it all. Why on earth should she have to "be judged by the same standards as real opera singers"? Phantom of the Opera is more likely to be classed as a light musical than an Opera. I have never read or heard anyone where she claims to be an Opera Singer!!!

i agree with KATEisFAB i absolutly love katherine jenkins i have most of her songs on my ipod so i can sing with them or sleep to them. she has a nice voice and even though it could have been better in this song lets face the fact arpeggio1358 i bet if you had all that she had and then you sing a well known opera son yes theres going to be expectations but no one can be as good as the original singer.
Plain simple fact she's amazing those notes are incredibly hard for a metso-soprano to hit and she stayed in tune and she held every note she sung well. If that isn't proper singing technique then people are clearly reaching BEYOND the stars here

The first time I saw a picture of Katherine Jenkins I thought "She wouldn't have to be able to sing". Then I listened to a sample and in 3 notes I was hooked. I think she has the most beautiful voice on the planet.

Why can't you stand having someone disagree with you? Listen to real opera singers like Renee Flaming or Ruth Ann Swenson and compare.

@itbejess Of course it isn't an opera, but the use of good singing technique still applies to this song. Jenkins's technque is terrible. She has dared to try to teach singing technique to others, and if she's going to do this, she can expect harsh criticism. Proper technique is important for all types of singers. If they don't use it, their voices won't last very long. Ever hear of Bonnie Tyler? I rest my case.

Its sad that Katherine and her fiance Gethin have broke up ,good wishes to them both . They have handled it with great dignity and privacy .

Andrew llyod webber had imagined a phantom in his head that sounded a lot like crawford. it wasnt written FOR crawford. During auditions, webber had heard crawford and new he was PERFECT! 1:20 She looks dead. I *think* she's going for serene and comforting, but it's *not* a comforting song. The Phantom is not telling a child not to be afraid of the dark. He's pleading, imploring Christine to love him back and stay with him forever. He's in love, desperately trying to be requited, but he's isolated and mad, and it's coming out VERY CREEPY. Yes, *he's* going for comforting, but at all the wrong moments. He's too intense. I don't feel that tension. Great voice, so-so actress.

Since this is a tradionally male song, it's actually not a bad idea for a mezzo soprano to sing it. Katherine Jenkins makes it sound more natural than Brightman.

Personally...I like her voice. It's powerful, it has meaning, it has a good range, and honestly, it's beautiful! What a gorgeous woman, with a gorgeous voice to match! The breathing technique worried me, you can damage your voice by breathing in large gasps like that, and then belting. But, otherwise, it was very pleasant listening to her, her vibrato is very nice also!

She's either very nervous or needs a lot of work on everything except her looks. People get excited over a mezzo who looks good! In her music videos and recordings she sounds great, but we know what production can do to boost a performer. Most of her live performances show exceptional weakness in many facets of her mid and upper registers. But if musically uneducated, tone deaf public like her. Its their money!!! Seriously i think nerves are her major problem which is shown in her breathing.

Katherine is like a modern day Mario Lanza (albeit female). Classically trained, beautiful voice, pleasing on the eye (VERY in her case), but will never be a fully fledged opera singer. Nothing wrong with that though, love her and I love Lanza

I think she sings beautifully. She doesn't have to prove that she is a good singer as the fact that she has sold over 4 million records and there are nearly 1.5 million hits on here says it all. Why on earth should she have to "be judged by the same standards as real opera singers"? Phantom of the Opera is more likely to be classed as a light musical than an Opera. So are "Where are your CDs?" and "You're just a hater." These phrases have no validity. Jenkins is a mediocre singer at best. We don't hate her and we're not jealous of her. Why can't you stand having someone disagree with you? Listen to real opera singers like Renee Flaming or Ruth Ann Swenson and compare.

She has dared to try to teach singing technique to others, and if she's going to do this, she can expect harsh criticism. Proper technique is important for all types of singers. If they don't use it, their voices won't last very long. Ever hear of Bonnie Tyler? I rest my case.
