They still play it on Polish radio every hour on the hour. He played this tune in alarm to warn that the Tarter Army was approaching the Polish Corridor in the 1680's. They play this tune in his memory.
The Tartars or present day Russians shot the Trumpeter of Krakow with an arrow, that's why they stop playing so abruptly.
