  • The Tartars or present day Russians shot the Trumpeter of Krakow with an arrow, that's why they stop playing so abruptly.

  • it wasnt a warning call the guy just made an oath to play the call every hour. he played it before the tartars came to poland. he made an oath and stuck to it for the love and pride of his country. it was never intended to be a war alarm. the tartars just thought it was. trust me i come from polish blood.

  • @googa194 Correct you are, he stood his ground and played every hour as he was paid to do. His tune was changed in alert of the oncoming tartars, but he still continued to play his original song until the tartars shot an arrow through his throat (No joke)

  • Russians? No, that's false - they were Mongols!

  • Hate to break it to you, but it was when the Mongols were attacking Poland, not Russia

  • it is about the invasion of Krakow in 1241 by the mongols (or tartars, it's the same).

  • They still play it on Polish radio every hour on the hour. He played this tune in alarm to warn that the Tarter Army was approaching the Polish Corridor in the 1680's. They play this tune in his memory.
