  • Dometick, I have just made the same complaint on another clip. I drove from Manchester to Wolverhampton midweek, and got 55 minutes including two Stellifies and no encore. If it's a warm-up gig fair enough but these tickets were top price. As you say, people only want to hear good things about their idols though.

  • fuck im going to see him in dec paid 60 quid for the two tickets better get more than 55 minutes,,,,

  • just heard that brownie's doing a free gig for his album launch

mebbe someone had a word in his shellike! (see below)

definately up for that! gimme a chance to meet the forum peeps! ;-)

    as previously said, he's a legend :-)

  • Haha I'm in front of you in the vid!

  • anyone else actually go to the oxford gig?

stellify is great, as the clip shows above

what did you think of the rest of the 'night'

  • I didn't go to the gig so can't comment. As I recall your post's on the forum were weighted toward your need for Stone Roses songs in the set. You are entitled to your opinion but after approx 150 responses all disagreeing with you, I for one can see there was little point in the thread continuing. I have seen these discussions just end up in 'I say', 'you say' statements that get nowhere ... pointless.

As I stated on the forum, you might find kindred spirits on a Stone Roses forum.

  • hi kymystry - what i was trying to say before the moderators got involved was that ian left stage at 22.25 when there was a 23.00 curfew. As someone who'd paid full price for a ticket i felt this was a let down. If he didn't have anything suitable to play, then why didn't ian take the opportunity to keep his roses fanbase happy by chucking in a couple of roses tunes. A LOT of his roses fanbase continued to support ian in his solo career (like me), so to neglect them is 'debatably' career suicide

  • during the debate on the forum, whilst it was allowed to continue, it became clear that ian feels his solo career now has enough weight and history to leave the roses behind.

this is totally fair enough, and in some ways admirable to leave behind.

the problem as i see it is that the stone roses ARE what ian brown will be remembered for, whether he likes it or not, this WILL be his legacy, and a damn fine one it is too!

ps we are also having a good chat bout this on roses forum :-)

  • The guy has spent the lead up to festivals recording and mixing the album, too busy to do the usual festivals - just a couple, so he gets two 'warm-up' gigs at fairly short notice. These are usually to try out the festival set which would not be a full 1-11/2 hours.

Respect the fact that he would've had a good reason not to finish at 11pm and to play just 1 Roses song. "Career suicide"? hardly. He is a solo artiste. I'd feel cheated if I paid full whack and got a night of Roses covers.

  • that again is fair enough, the 2 gigs were at short notice and i understand what you are saying about wanting to try the festie set, only thing i would say is i did pay full price for ticket, the same price as the full blown november tour in fact, so i don't think it too unreasonable to expect a full set. if its a warm up gig shouldn't it have a warm up gig price on the ticket? I went to a similar feeder gig in camden stables last year - ticket price £10.00, on stage 45 minutes - fair dinkum

  • I wasn't there so can't comment on whether I'd feel I'd got my money's worth or not. All my friends who went did not moan about ticket price or length of set, just how amazing it was to be there.

If you have issues with it I suggest you take it up with the event organisers.

Right ... I'm out of this discussion now as there's nothing more to be said.

  • thank you kymystry for the sensible discussion, just a shame the ian brown forum gestapo forced it to take place on you tube

i have taken the points made here and on the thread into account, and as primarily a stone roses fan that has been following and supporting ian browns career for the last ten years i think it best in future to support my local tribute band venue (go go MR KYPS in POOLE) as ian apparently doesn't need or want my kind anymore - damn shame - all the best monkey man

  • dometick ... are you going to say the same thing on every Oxford clip??

    How very unoriginal!

Wasn't at this gig but am loving all the clips from people who were there, friends who went say it was a brilliant warm up for the coming winter tour, bring it on :)

  • kymystry, i would of loved to debate the gig on the forum, and was enjoying doing so, the 'Oxford review thread' had over 150 replies in a day, but the ian brown gestapo prevented it unfortunately - one moderator called 'JAILER' emailed me to say in no uncertain terms to go away (rather more colourfully than that it has to be said)

as a fan of ian browns since seein the roses at spike island i was pretty gutted to get banned - so thought mebbe could get some debate going somewhere on here :-)

  • disappointing warm up gig, only stayed on stage for 50min, which included playing stellify twice - i had the balls to say as much on official ian brown site and got banned for my views with thread deleted, not even allowed to debate - only positives allowed on there! you have been warned! blind fans only on the forum! still a legend though!
