Actually, the main problem with the maul in the game is that people immediately think its rape-on-a-stick and try to slam it into the monsters without thinking. The maul is specially made so that you have to hit the enemy with the spiked ball end to deal the most damage, standing immediately next to an enemy and swinging hits with the pole, which does worse damage than the steel pipe [mainly because its a slower weapon]. If you hit with the actual spiked ball, it IS rape-on-a-stick. :D

Haha! the maul is always such a dissapointment for people who play this game. They always try it against those blue things and it sucks, and then they never use i again. I think it's effective against certain enemies. That's the case with all the weapons actually...

Okay when you first leave the train and open that door after the save point? When I played, the stairs and walls/hall started turning f***ed up and if you didn't run fast enough to the door at the end, you'd DIE.

Yeah, the maul is actually area sensitive...if you hit monsters with just the handle it's pretty much just another steel pipe. Use more distance!

When i played through this area i managed to not grab the map, i was distracted by the maul; which can be useful in easy mode. The maul reminds me of pyramid head's sword from the previous game. :)

Well, you get it if you beat more enemies with melee weapons than with ranged ones. Otherwise you get the flametrower.(Which you get by beating the game twice anyways.)
