I love this song! My mama is from West Virginia, her daddy was a coal miner and her name is Gennie (Genevieve)....my father met her while in the Coast Guard and they've been married 49 years.
I love this song, don't know how I had never been exposed to it. As a former coal miner and married to a girl from West Virginia , I can't quit singing it.
Dosent matter what side of the argument your on when it comes to coal the fact is its cheap and it keeps the lights on right now. By the way...this song kicks ass.
In Ohio we have thousands of acres of reclaimed strip mine land for hunting, fishing, camping and hiking, all free thanks to AEP (American Electric Power) and the state of Ohioi! All you have to do is ask for a free permit and it's good for life!
This is real REAL MUSIC, why the fuck do we have people like Taylor swift on the radio when it should be Doyle and Quicksilver. Who else is TIRED of the shit coming out of Nashville!?
It's a great sentiment, but I can't praise strip-mining, as this song does. I love my planet, and this music, but abhor the practices that give us ozone layer damage & black lung disease (as well as repulicans). peace out
First ozone depleation is due to CFC's and Halocarbons, neither of which comes from coal mining. Second strip mining reduces the occurence of black lung. Yes it is ugly. And third the "renewable energy" people really need to learn how to do math. The best we can do with current tech is light one 15W light bulb for 24 hrs with a approx 3ft x 3ft solar panel (1m x 1m) under the best conditions (july with no cloud cover) Yes that is going to save us all.
I am Jeni from West Virginia and this is such a great song....

Tight harmonies. I don't much care for bluegrass but appreciate most genres when well done.
