  • ummm idkthis guys dumb but all you need to do is expand your chest and control your own breathing and take in as much oxygen as possible for long distance you breath slower yet big breaths and for sprints you breath fast as much as you can and pump them arms!!!!!!!!

  • Wrong. The best breathing method is what makes you feel comfortable.

    There are incredible marathon runners who breath through their mouths exclusively which makes sense as the mouth allows in much more oxygen at once.

    Breathing slowly through the nose and slowly exhaling is going to starve most people of the amount of oxygen they need.

    The only reason 'trained athletes' or the people that run more can do so much while breathing so little is that their heart sends out more blood with each heartbeat than the less trained ones.

    And that happens due to the opening up of more arterioles and blood pathways in your body. And you can only achieve that by practicing more.

    Simply put, the more you run and exercise, the less breathing you need to do.

I have been training for the past 6 months and have only got till 14th of march 2009 to train. I get breathless and i have asthma and do not know if this is a bad sign or not.   • ive just signed up for the marines in the UK and we have to run 30 miles with over 70lbs of kit, so it should be possible

  • i have a question, in about 8-10 weeks i need to start being able to run about 2-3 miles. but i can only run about 1/4 a mile, and its not because i get tired or anything, its because i lose my breath! im 19 and im not over weight or anything, and i dont smoke. but how can i start getting up to 2-3 miles at a time? again when i run i dont get tired, and just i breath so heavy i feel like im going to pass out and im forced to stop, catch my breath, then keep going.. thanks for any help!

    start running in low pace for enduranced, n periodically entend the distants. before running, don't eat 2hours before. to up ur stamina, drink some black coffee n dates (or banana). works for me. hope this help :)

  • This is not a scientific answer in any way,

    but I remember experiencing the same thing, and if I just pushed myself to keep going, I could. It's like you feel that you're gonna die if you carry on, but you go on, and it doesn't really get worse. So you just have to hang in there.

    But of course - If it feels serious and you really can't actually go on, try some of the other tips here or consult a professional.

  • One thing that I learned back in middle school is count in threes. Breath in three steps then out three steps. It helps focus your mind on your breathing. It also helps reduce those nasty side cramps. I hope this helps.
