just so you know, J.D. Salinger wanted for no one to ever make it into a movie. and everyone who thinks this book is the reason john lennon died obviously never read the fucking book
Good videograhy, he's not angry enough in the first scene for how lost he is in the book. Adult world is screwed up and he's struggling to figure out how to find a place in it. Not the place his parents want for him. same issues in Catcher, Caught, but bigger with Daniel's leukemia.
omg, opening song is Hey Jude, i've been listening to this song all day because my uncles funeral was last tuesday and this was played and i've been listening to it ever since. just thought it was creepy.
i wanna know why david chapman murdered john lennon because of that certain passage from catcher in the rye. i don't get it. please explain it (the passage) to me.
@gohyperstrike there was no passage he killed him because he viewed lennon as a "phony" which means he was inspired from the book, chapman was a religious person and he was angry at lennon because he said the beatles are bigger then god, when the police arrived he was there reading the catcher in the rye
Holden hates phonies and theres a whole article about it but in short form theres a hidden message that says "all phonies must die says the catcher in the rye". David chapman found John lennon to be phony because he was "selling out" and focusing more yoko ono than his music. therefore resulting in david "carrying out holdens message".
@yeweebugger Chapman killed John Lennon because he saw John as a phony but it wasn't because of Yoko. It was because John was wearing a fur coat even though he was singing about peace.
On another note, the real issue that Holden seem'd to be dealin with was the whole: Catcher in the Rye deal, where he'd like to catch and preserve all the natural innocence and beauty the world has, instead of letting it fall to curruption, knowing that the world is full of so much phonie garbage is probably what kills him the most, but later on, what seems to get him is the realization that its selfish to be in such a way, and that its unavoidable..
I read the book from cover to cover, and still couldn't understand the significance between the book and the situation regarding the murder/muderer of John Lennon.
@InsanityHere The murderer, Mark David Chapman, said he viewed Lennon as a hypocrite, who talked about being selfless and kind (ie: not a phony), but who in reality was decadent and wealthy (ie: a phony)
Obviously, that's really simplified and there were other reasons, but that's a kind of summary.
its hard to make a good video about the catcher in the rye. i didnt like this one, you should read the book again and you'll understand more clearly what and how holden does think stuff
Holden is not confused hes alone after his brothers death he begins to self destruct and his grieving mom basically kicks him out by sending him to all these different schools. He also sees adulthood as phonie and hates everything about it thats why his sisters so important to him because shes still young and innocent. You also have to remember that hes 16 hungover beaten down depressed and just in shitty condition. So hes not confused hes fucked up.
Alassss! He's not emooo! He's just confuuused! Take pity. This is an awesome book. My favourite. It associates with nearly everyone, because everyone is confused at some point in there life. Particularily when you're an angsty horny teenage boy.
Really? You must not have ACTUALLY He was older than 12, but he was still a whiny, emo, Whitman-wannabe who ran away from home just because he couldn't deal with adult responsibilities, and even failed at running away. At least you've found a solid idol there, kiddo!
my fav book, written perfectly, as though he is talking to you as you read it, its also been said that we wont see any book of salingers until he dies, but before that happens i would love to see this on the big screen, i would love johnny depp, to play the part, a unique actor that can play the part of those great charactors that others cant get near, i so wish i could put this to him, a great story untold
I don't think you should of play a beatles song at the begining, because the book is one cause of the death of john lennon, it influenced mark david chapman to kill john lennon.
I heard that theory, too... It's rubbish. I've read Catcher in the Rye and I don't plan to kill president or something like that. That's only proof that Chapman was psycho-labile and that anything could influenced him to do such thing. If the 1980. today, he would probably saw the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and then go on rampage...
that is very true it was the aspect of phoines in our culture that inspired david chapman to become what he thought in his mind was the messenger of J.D. Salinger and to kill the biggest phonie of them all john lennon.
IM not saying that john lennon deserved to die im just sayin he was a phony
john lennon owned 5 luxury apartments in the dokota, 4 farms in virginia, vermont, and up state new york. 250 head of price wholestein catlle worth of 1500,000 each. a vast weekend home in florida worth more thew 60 million. a 63 foot ocean going yacht. and was worth 450 million dollars. all this from a man who told to imagine a life with out posessions. so who is the phoney.
To me that sounds like the acts of a multi-millionaire. But fair enough one who is way out of touch. But with those sort of riches success and fame it would'nt be human to not lose it a little I just don't think that necessarily makes him fake. I think what holden is talking about when he calls people phony is someone who does not express their true feelings or emotions.
that is one way to look at it but david chapman took the enitre thing too literal and did what he thought caufeild would have if he were pit on his place its all a very strange but the catcher in the rye is what fueld chapmans manic depression in to doing what he did, and 'to him" killing the biggest phoney alive. that is all I was saying when i made me first statement.
1. Where's the hat?! 2. Ok I know hardcore fans would go ballistic but I (a fan also) would love to see a movie just out of curiosity. There are some scenes I have to see in live action. You know which ones.
i think there's too much important little details in the writing that a film wouldn't pick up on. Because the theme of the book isn't in the plotline, its in Holden's thoughts.
Also, it would be ridiculous making a movie based on it, Holden talks so much about how he hates Hollywood, movies, actors ect. , it just wouldn't add up on a silver screen.
Okay, I'm sorry, people! What song would you guys have used? I needed to put something at the beginning when I was editing, because it sounded terrible without music.
hey man, it coulda been anything really, i love hey jude. I just don't think that it goes good with any trailer/movie. good vid though, love the book.
@Mlkrantz I wouldn't put anything at the beginning. Holden's getting psychoanalyzed and his youth squashed through telling this. I'd stare right into the camera for the opening bit without blinking.
that was actually amazing. The best one Ive seen so far.
