My personal opinion. The French saw that cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar are among the poorest and lack of modern technology during that time. They just want it to help develop the country. As far as history writing, Thailand is successful today in high technology and infastructures. Why? because they believe that the French was helping them develop the country and stick to the plan. Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar fall behind because they think they're smarter.

I feel that the whole purpose of the Khmer Rouge is to change the country into what Pol Pot think into a better state. Just imagine, your whole life as a peasant, your life is never improving, the government deserted you, nobody to care for you. Then all of a sudden they permitted Americans to bomb your villages which kills your family, relatives and love ones, then how would u feel?Wouldn't you want to revolt? I know that alot of Khmer might disagree with me because of the genocide by Khmer Rouge that had happened. But to me, and who ever that can really understand what had happened is the fact that Pol Pot is actually very patriotic. He loves his country and he wishes to transform it into a way he sees fit in his ideaology. According to Pol Pot's interview, he says he feel regret and feel sorry that his politic causes the killing fields. Pol Pot fears of VN's spy and he feels as a threat with his own civilian. Some people say there were three groups of Khmer rouge: Khmer rouge of Shinhanuk, Khmer rouge of Pol Pot,and Khmer rouge of Angkar ( leaded by Youn). However, the word Angkar is created by Communist Party or Khmer rouge which was leaded by Pol Pot( brother number 1)and his group. In my understanding, it is something about building the world biggest rice resource as compare to the Angkor era, using that ideology.
