I've had this laptop since July 2007 (currently Jan 2011) and it's still going strong. I use it every single weekday, usually 8 to 10 hours per day. I don't game with it much anymore because it *does* tend to overheat. When running Portal the CPU hits about 77°C on both cores and the GPU around 85°C.

I keep it running in low power or "balanced" mode for everyday use and it doesn't overheat.

Agreed. I have an Aspire 5920 and it is absolute shit. I feel like flushing it down the toilet. It gives me lots of stress. Acer products are crap.

amazing grahpics, i got the same laptop, a year later, the W key broke and the power cable wouldnt slot in properly ._.

i might remove the graphics card when the laptop brakes, use it for a good use XD

my one is acer aspire 5920aswell and it's intel core duo 2 with 2.0ghz and then i upgraded to 2.6ghz and i can play gta 4 without lagging :D

Jesus people...you dont know how to increase your fps? :-) then you dont know much about PC :-)....to many programs running try gamebooster....or buy 4GB of 800MHZ memory.....I have this laptop and my vista goes faster than old XP....and you wanna more FPS?..... jesus go to nvidia control pannel turn off anti aliasing and overything.....gaming is not about buying a laptop instal game and run it.... I play Stalker shadow of chernobyl at full graphics Need for speed shift at full graphics try it

Acer aspire 5315 runs better than that laptop in the video,seriously my freind has that laptop,and he said it was slow,but good,and then i got one of the earlier models(5315) and oblivion run like a star on it!!!

Well, Oblivion did come out in 2006, so it should run on a laptop released in 2009. The 5315 does not have a dedicated video card so it would have a hard time running more modern games like Crysis or Supreme Commander, unlike the laptop in this video.

Supreme Commander came out in 2007 and I bought this laptop in 2007.

Ok here's a note on buying laptops: I bought the Acer with 8600M GT because I wanted a gaming laptop and it was $400. Anyone that spends $1000+ on a gaming laptop is an idiot because chances are it's way overkill for the games the LCD can actually display. I've had this laptop for 14 months and I still haven't found a game the 8600GT can't play well at the 15" screen's maximum resolution of 1280x800. When games become more complex I'll buy another $500 laptop, no need to spend $1,000+ today.

Nvidia is a little better btw Acer also underclocked it's 8600M GS/GT by 50mhz in the core so you might want to get riva tuner and put it back to normal clock speeds it's worth it for only an extra 1 or 2 degrees.

It can run crysis on low/medium! Whit 1.83GHz.

3 gb ram. and 320 gb hdd.

I have this laptop and I have this games installed: Crysis, counter strike source, team fortress2 and zombie master, it can run most of the games Bioshock and COD 4 to!

runs great for games.  I thought about a 17" lcd laptop but realized it was too big for my tastes and would no longer be a "lap" top.

I've never had it overheat. Even when I had the laptop sitting on the bed (soft bedding, laptop sinks a bit, vents are covered) and after about 30 minutes the fans would get really loud and I'd have to pick it up off the bed so the fans could cool the gpu/cpu and slow down a bit. Only when gaming though, surfing the net you never hear the fans.

Well, i had to take Vista off if I really wanted quality graphics on my 5920. I tried Crysis and Gears of War on Vista and at max graphics they lagged a lot. Like 15 fps. I put WinXP and both GoW and Crysis run at 30fps at MAX graphics. Now thats efficiency.

how'd you get the sound to work? I tried XP first and couldn't find drivers for the sound card.

Also Acer offered a lot of extra software designed for the laptop running vista. The power management software is great. Considering Supreme Commander runs well in Vista I think I'll just stick with Vista now.

The Low FPS with Vista is because of DX10 and many VGA cards arent compatible with it even if they say they are.

yes, completely stock. No overclocking of anything and running Vista.
