I raised a fledgling crow many years ago. When I passed him along to be trained to survive in the wild, I went to clean out his cage. In a corner of his cage I found a stash of marbles, coins, my missing watch, and other stuff. All these years later, I still wonder if he missed his belongings.
@billygotgrove ~ apology accepted. There are actually people on YouTube who hunt them, and make all kinds of horrible remarks, so I thought you were one of them :)
12 dollar wallmart watch, they only care that it's "ooh shiny". But then again, who is smarter, animals that like whatever looks good or humans who spend assloads of money for genuine gold.
@euromerc i can ONLY agree! :-) Ravens are my favorite birds ever! Like ravens want to be friends with me, they somehow understand me or something. They are awesome, I can't understand those who dislike ravens!
@C32347K17732 "Nice animals, I would like to pet one, but I don't think you should pet animals like birds... or any other animal. :(' if that wasn't you then i think i may have...
@duanlang4ever * That's a myth. They're interested in EVERYTHING. You can give them a toilet paper roll, and they're just as engaged with it as a shiny thing :)
@Koroush51 Certain types yes, in this case I'm assuming it's a Common Raven and most likely an American Crow, both of which are illegal to own in the USA. Though you're allowed to hunt them It's even illegal to have any part of them in your possession even if you plan to rescue them and let me free. It's strange that some exotic rare birds can be allowed as pets yet, these common corvids aren't allowed?
It's funny.. I live in Florida, and supposedly, we have no ravens whatsoever down here, not a single one, not even seasonally, and yet, going on a few clues I've taken from your videos(Edgar's size compared to the box and guitar cases in the background) I've noticed plenty of birds about Edgar's size and shape flying around. Much larger than the typical crows, and their call IS much harsher.
I have a theory that maybe there are some wild african hybrids in this area.
@euromerc Hmmm... Could be the case then. My buddy with the FWC says he knows of at least eight people from this area in the last ten years who have lost various non-native corvids, including brown necked ravens and pied crows, so it 's entirely possible that a breeding population has taken root down here. Stranger things have happened.
I watched a Raven (crow? I couldn't tell because I didn't have both a crow and a raven for comparison) sitting ontop of our apartments and a squirrel skiddish as ever walked up to it, the raven stared at him and jumped up, the squirrel darted off never to be seen again. Love raven/crow antics!
Ok I found it. African Pied Crow/White-necked Raven. Is that Corvus cryptoleucus or the African species of White-necked Raven, Corvus albicollis? I'm surprised that Edgar is so much bigger because these species are more or less the size of our Eurasian Carrion Crow, though Ricky will be an American Crow. Please excuse my curiousity!
@euromerc No they are not the same species! The Common Raven is Corvus corax, and the American Crow is Corvus brachyrhynchos . They are quite difference, I can assure you.
@euromerc Their GENUS is Corvus. Just the same way the Gray Wolf is Canis lupus and the Coyote is Canis latrans. Does a similar genus mean they are the same species? Certainly not!
Not by nature. Edgar gets a little mean if you pay too much attention to one of the other birds :) He gets jealous. But they are affectionate, intelligent, birds.
You can have hybrid crows/ravens from Africa, which you can get from Corvid Ranch. It's illegal to possess them in the U.S. unless you are a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, or are working under one.
They are supposedly smarter than Parrots. I've never had parrots, so I can't really say; but Edgar is extremely intelligent and crafty :) I viewed your "favorites" and you have some great ones. I favorited the snake with the dwarf hamster :)
