@xWolfHauntx I own a Pit Bullmastiff, and a Dogue De Bordeaux. Both protection trained, both love bite work. My Pit Bullmastiff is faster then any dog I know, 90 pounds of muscle. My Bordeaux isn't the fastest runner, but when he grabs on he doesn't let go, and tears things apart, he's definitely faster then a person though. Both are in agility as well. Believe me, theyre bones can handle it. You can actually see a ton of videos of Mastiffs doing this on YouTube. Just look it up. ;)
@OhitzAndge If you think, 90lbs isn't that much, but 150 lbs of tank like Mastiff(remember Mastiffs, like English Mastiffs who I believe this person is talking about)will have a harder time handling it, especially in the long run, sure I know any dog can be protection trained, but a Mastiff have less stamina, and drive, and will have a harder time handing it, AT LEAST compared to a GSD or Malinois.
@xWolfHauntx I'am the person talking about the 150 pound Mastiffs. My Bordeaux weighs 165, and because of his extensive training he has the stamina of a dog that weighs much less then he does, but he's in shape.. if we were talking about 150 pound HOUSE PETS then drive and stamina would definitely be a problem. My dogs have more drive then most dogs I watch, I wouldn't use any other breed. All dogs in this line of work will have a higher chance of bone issues in the long run though.

@xWolfHauntx protection Mastiff, (Tosa Inu), lived for 14 years. Which is pretty fantastic. He was healthy all his life and never developed issues later on, which is most likely due to the work he did, it made him stronger, kept him healthy. His half sister, a Bullmastiff/Tosa cross, lived for almost sixteen years, which is also great. Both were worked vigorously and LOVED it. Not many dogs, even smaller breeds, can make it for that long. I know work has something to do with it.
@OhitzAndge Well that's great to hear that you have such healthy dogs. =) I am a Mastiff lover myself, however my next protection dog will be a nice male Malinois. ;) Now that is mainly because my BEST dog was a Malinois/APBT mix, and I lost her in '10, so I miss having a Mal around the house, so I will be getting that next. However, I also plan on having a Rott in the future, and would LOVE to have a Caucasian Shepherd if I can ever find a breeder in my area. ;)

@xWolfHauntx The combination of speed, bite, and agility that the Malinois uses when attacking is amazing, where as the Mastiff just uses his weight and huge jaws to crush. I like it better that way though. Best dog I've ever owned is my current Pit Bullmastiff. Shes amazingly smart. I've never not owned a Pit at any point in my life. They're great dogs for any/everything as well. Good luck with the Ovtcharka. I owned one a few years back, there were POUNDS of hair EVERYWHERE. xD

My black wolf was a rescue case. I'm hoping to get him shipped to my state soon, but its a long shot. Just keep looking and doing your research, then if you have to, IMPORT!

Oh, how I love people who have no dog experience (having a dog as a pet doesn't make you an expert). I'd love to take you with me to dog training and giving you no protection at all and then asking you to start attacking me.
You'd panic and start running. The dog will try (and succeed) in toppling you (dogs know to target the legs from behind at the knee area), and then bite down on your arm (this will hurt like hell btw). Imagine if he was trained to bite you in the throat.
Another thing you fail to realise is that dogs can be fearless unlike humans sometimes. If you try to scare the dogs by aggressively waving your arms or punching with fists or kicking (or using a weapon) you will just provoke the dog.
Only a handful of people can remain cool when a German Shepherd or Malinois is racing down 30-32 mph (50 km/h) to topple and bite them in the arm (let alone hit a moving target moving at that speed).
@FTheLeo In that situation there is so much adrenaline your not thinking like a calm, cool, collected person. There is a reason they use dogs, they have been PROVEN to be effective in the past.

@KLP2566 You don't have to be dominant, check out Zak George he changed my perception on that whole theory. Since I found his vids I started teaching my dog the same way he taught his, she is an 11 year old so much for old dogs not learning new tricks :P. As long as you do your research and know what you are in for you won't have any problems :D. Talking to breeders is the best way I have found to get information, and seriously Zak George look him up :D :D good luck.

It´s not only "biting" what they do, they also kind of push and pull you from every different angle for you to lose stability. Several things to worry about when attacked by these dogs. Try to keep on your feet, try to not get your face mauled off (or any other part), someone else approaching while you are distracted and a long list of "etc". For sure these animals can screw all your plans in a matter of seconds.
People don't realize these dogs are born to work this job and love doing it. It's a responsible owner who trains them, when they can... and cannot act.... and be able to control them... or! These dogs LOVE it!

Factual data is: All creature including humans (races) are in fact genetic driven and predisposed to certain traits and propensities. Its a fact of genetics, plain and simple. Some people who have no clue 1. no such thing as lockjaw, 2. pits are dumb and genetically defective (no room here for data), 2. working dogs NEED to work, genetically bred and wired to work, just like greyhounds need to run. 3. protection training is NOT training a dog to be aggressive, its honing and controlling a skill they ALREADY possess. They are trained to quickly and effectively win the fight.... and to understand when they can and when they can't do this.
Pits are not genetically predisposed to do anything more than be erratic. They do NOT lock their jaws, it's impossible, but the crackpots who get them try to enhance them by telling people this lie. No dog can do that.. Shepherds, Rotts and Dobes are genetically bred to be a certain way and good breeding continues those genetics.

They were escape artists and used tools to get to what they wanted. All of my Pit Bulls were friendly and loving dogs. Oh, how I love people who have no dog experience (having a dog as a pet doesn't make you an expert). I'd love to take you with me to dog training and giving you no protection at all and then asking you to start attacking me.
You'd panic and start running. The dog will try (and succeed) in toppling you (dogs know to target the legs from behind at the knee area), and then bite down on your arm (this will hurt like hell btw). Imagine if he was trained to bite you in the throat.

Another thing you fail to realise is that dogs can be fearless unlike humans sometimes. If you try to scare the dogs by aggressively waving your arms or punching with fists or kicking (or using a weapon) you will just provoke the dog.
Only a handful of people can remain cool when a German Shepherd or Malinois is racing down 30-32 mph (50 km/h) to topple and bite them in the arm (let alone hit a moving target moving at that speed).

@KLP2566 You don't have to be dominant, check out Zak George he changed my perception on that whole theory. Since I found his vids I started teaching my dog the same way he taught his, she is an 11 year old so much for old dogs not learning new tricks :P. As long as you do your research and know what you are in for you won't have any problems :D. Talking to breeders is the best way I have found to get information, and seriously Zak George look him up :D :D good luck.

It´s not only "biting" what they do, they also kind of push and pull you from every different angle for you to lose stability. Several things to worry about when attacked by these dogs. Try to keep on your feet, try to not get your face mauled off (or any other part), someone else approaching while you are distracted and a long list of "etc". For sure these animals can screw all your plans in a matter of seconds.

Pits are not genetically predisposed to do anything more than be erratic. They do NOT lock their jaws, it's impossible, but the crackpots who get them try to enhance them by telling people this lie. No dog can do that.. Shepherds, Rotts and Dobes are genetically bred to be a certain way and good breeding continues those genetics.

They were escape artists and used tools to get to what they wanted. All of my Pit Bulls were friendly and loving dogs. The only other dog I ever owned that compared to them was my German Shepherd, also a loving dog and wouldn't harm a fly. @SapperK9 because it can cause too much damage. they are used to only take the suspect down and hold them there and not to cause long lasting damage e.g. loss of penis and balls. so they go for the arm as it is not sensitive and will not tear off when the dog bites it. i know that sounds grim but it could happen
