@xInFaMoUsREMiiX Always someone on the internet trying to offend someone. If you can't use your imagination for as to why someone would need that much then maybe just maybe, google it or ask like ccpcakes did. My setup is gonna have that much because i game a lot and host servers. For instance, 8 gigs of ram on a minecraft server is shit if you actually want full potential/more people on it. 24 would just be heaven.
@funnyshitguy lol that was an exaggeration but the amount has doubled every year or two. I remember when 2 gigs was more than enough for xp and that was just like 5-6 years ago now we use 8-16. Sometimes I use 10gigs but I never hit 16. With the technology in gaming doubling every generation I would not doubt that using up to 48gigs by 2020 is acceptable.
@PainfulOrpheus Ha, yeah. Although the future is leaning more towards cloud computing, where the servers do all the dirty work and send the info back to your device. Could be a nice idea, cloud RAM. Maybe even have a mini-dedicated CloudRAM server in your closet and hook it up to your home network, and your computers won't need RAM anymore. Though we would have to find a way to transfer all the data from the CloudRAM server to your PC's faster then with a CAT cable... Interesting, if you ask me.
can anyone help me. my hard disk drive is losing memory everyday. I didn't even install or download anything but now it decreased from 486 GB to 478 GB. please reply, is it worm or something? I used Microsoft Security Essentials to scan and it found nothing. Please help me anyone.
24gb is standard in the dual cpu world... my Tyan S2932 has 16 ram slots.... and i am using 2gb chips.... young padewans dont realise that speed of ram is really nothing... its the amount that counts.... i am currently at 16gb looking to go 48gb with 8 4gb sticks...
@elitedw it is possible to have it i just cannot find it i found a picture on google of a motherboard with 4 processors and 24 ram spots 8x24=192 it was a mainframe computer motherboard but all the same it can have 192gb of ram and i would legit love to see it XD
@CCPcakes any sort of intensive CPU work, you need to store a lot of data in ram for it to work on. Working with Gigapixel images in Photoshop is a good example
@CCPcakes no one really does actually, except maybe he's doing a lot of rendering stuffs and those extra RAM can be useful i suppose.i have 16GB of RAM btw..=P
@CCPcakes Content creation. Ask anybody who works with video or high resolution graphics or lots of audio tracks and so on, and they'll tell you more RAM = good!
@CCPcakes Ram gets eaten very quickly when dealing with video editing, 3d modeling, having multiple programs open at once. It's not just for browsing the web.
What recreational use possible uses 24 gigs of RAM? my computer runs slow at just over 1 gig of ram on an old motherboard with no video card and a 3.6GHz processor. Im gonna build a new computer, but seriously 24 gigs?
Motherboards don't support 24 gig even though manufacturers say they do. My best gues is it's probably the memory controller on the CPU itself. So the the CPU is not compatible with 24gigs.
I threw a 990x and 24GB of Corsair Dominator GT 2000 into this mobo and it posted right up. (Dual GTX 560Ti) Go into prime and do a custom test and put in 24576MB for Ram test
Intel Burn Test that will hit ALL the available ram
I have this board and have 12gig corsair dominator GT ram and it only see 8gig when run at 2000mhz as rated but when i run it at 1800 or 1600 it see all 12gig ,,,,,, ow well lol
I actually need more, i do 3d graphics and some scenes i render use up all 24 GB ram WHEN IT SHOWS UP!!! That option you turned on didnt help me My bios detects 16GB instead 24GB and its basically a roulette sometimes it detects 24 sometimes 16, for totally no reason... :/
@kevinstampe ow tnx, can you help me please? i dont know good english, i watched alot of videos about overclocking CPU and RAM but i cant understand people by their speaking... i have AMD Athlon II X4 630 2,8Ghz and two cards of 2gb RAM 800Mhz CL5 (4gb all) and windows 7 ultimate 64bit.... i know if i overclock only the cpu speed it dont make big change.. people say that i need to overclock the ram too with the cpu but my cpu and ram works on max frenquency, wait i need more spece to write lol!
@kevinstampe my RAM is DDR2 4GB 800Mhz CL5*, can you please guide me how to overclock the ram with the cpu please? i have normal cooling system and once i overclocked the cpu to 3,6ghz from 2,8ghz but then i removed it because of the heat... but on 3,2ghz its normal.. why i can only overclock the speed of cpu but the ram not? i tried to overclock the ram in difrent ways: cl,speed / cl / speed - but all these is show overclocking fail... if i touch the ram from the BIOS it wont work,no space...
@mapukmapuk It is always wisest not to overclock more than 10%, if not lower. And if you have no knowledge about OCing, go find tuts on the internet :)
@vistakid10 hey vistakid, who gives a flying dog crap if 8gb is good enough for you. should no one buy a luxury car because a grimlin is good enough to take you from point a to point b? should a person not buy a mansion because a shack is good enough to live in? seriously life would suck if we could never advance and get that something that is better than what we currently have. i hate it when people are downers.

The Intel Burn Test (google that) is basically a pre-packaged way to run linpack on x86 PC's and will use as much ram as is available, afaik. Try that linus.
The only reason i can think of for having 24gig of RAM is if you are a nerd in there mums basement
